Hi guys im looking for a laptop for a friend.

Need one that is a more Business type laptop with a 8 or 9 cell battery

Preferably with a 17inch screen aswell

I have been looking at a few dell laptops

http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellst...&c=au&l=en&s=dhs&cs=audhs1&model_id=xps-l702x

and possibly this even though is a 15inch

http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellst...au&c=au&l=en&s=dhs&cs=audhs1&model_id=xps-15z

I'm generally not really a fan of dell but i haven't been able to find anything else. Are dell laptops any good?

Please help

thanks

my 4 year old alienware m9750 is about that speed...:p I'm getting 10.5k with the t7200, and the t7600g@3ghz should put me into the 13-14k range...

IMO that laptop was not worth the $1k he was asking, maybe $600-$700...

check dell outlet, they have a 15-30% off code 99% of the time, and the stock changes hourly.

what will you be doing with this laptop/etc?

Lenovo's thinkpads are good business styled laptops. Only issue is they do not appear to make any 17" laptops.

It's basically a semi desktop replacement but needs portability too hence the need for a bigger battery

Friend is upgrading from a 6 year old HP laptop Pentium 4 3.2 1 gig RAM x700m which has amazingly lasted for a very long time so the upgrade needs some future proofing and needs to last a while. I would tell her to wait for bulldozer but its needed before end of financial year. A few of my mates have had their HP laptops die on them recently so I'm a bit sceptical about them too.

I'm not sure about the batt life on any of the dells out there, but HP business class laptops have an extra 12 cell "slice" battery that you can use with them. The older C2d 17in I was looking at would get a usable 6hrs of batt life.

With ALL laptop companies out there, the base "consumer" models are SH** but the "business" class laptops are much better.

IMO get something that you can get a 3-4 year at home warranty that covers accidents.
IDK if you would ever plan on "upgrading" the laptop, but dell uses there own video card style so the usual MXM upgrades don't work

I believe HP is the only one currently offering an RGB LCD screen(dreamcolor) (dell is releasing one soon)
