Hello this forum seemed to be the perfect place to ask this question, so here it is.
My PC has two GeForce 6600s on SLI. I've been thinking about buying another card (like the GeForce 6800GS), however for the time being I can only afford 1. So the question is. Would 1 GeForce 6800GS be as good or better than the two 6600 on SLI?

If you're wondering this is the card I have, and this is the card I was thinking of buying.

one 6800GS is more powerful then 2 6600 in SLI, so it might be an idea of getting one 6800GS now and sell your 6600's and then getting another 6800GS with the money from your 6600's.

    comparsion

2x 6800GS in SLI is the same as 5.5x 6600 in SLI (theoretical performance based on specifications)

Get a 7600GT. Cheaper and faster than a 6800GS. (And much better than 6600 SLI)

Yes, 7600GT will smoke the GS and I am a big 6800GS fan because I had 2 very good ones. The 7600GT's overclock very well.
