The stock cooler on my Asus GTX480 is blown - and well I know Fermi
is a hot son of a .....

My local hardware store has to coolers that fits the 480:

1. Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme Plus
or
2. Zalman VF3000F

Can anyone of the geeks here come with a recommandation based on
actual experience?

I am buying one of these two - mainly because I can go get it in an hour or so...

Accellero Xtreme is excellent. Best you can get without going water cooling. The VF3000 though is also a very good cooler, just behind the Accellero and it only uses up two slots. If you have the room, I would go for the AC cooler.

I hate to spoil your fun, but wouldn't an upgrade to a 680 or 670 be better? You have to pay for the new cooler anyway, so you're really looking at the difference in price and one of those new cards will blow away the 480. Having a duff 480 really is a great excuse to change your card. :D

I know, you're gonna tell me you can't afford it...

Yeah....You are right.....In my main rig I have a 7970.....and before that I had a GTX580 so no need for a new ....

No - it is for my son´s computer.....playing WoW and LoL and stuff like that, so the GTX480 will be fine and gives extra heat in the winther ;-)
