Ageia PHYSX reducing FPS?

I installed my asus ageia physx card (pci, 128mb ddr3) only 3 months ago...and since then I notice an FPS drop of the maximum fps and a simultanious increase on the minimum FPS, but only at resolutions over 1280x1024....

What I mean is that I get a more narrow FPS window... eg Playing :rockout:

Company of heroes, and benchmarking in dx10 mode (in vista) I used to get min 44, max 223, average 134, and after installing the ageia card I got min 70, max 148, average 123. :wtf:

Every time I tried, I got similar results....

Any ideas why something like this might be happening? :confused:

This is happening because PhysX cards suck. Seriously though, just make sure you have all your drivers updated for everything (chipset, vid card, physx card, etc.) If this doesn't work, just get rid of the useless thing.

In games that support the Ageia Physx card, framerates will decrease. It shouldn't affect other games though.

I would agree, however company of heroes... officialy supports Havoc physics engine!

I have not observed this with all games, though...
cod4, world in conflict and others no problem...
GRAW, pes2008, MOH airborne, and others I 've seen it happen for some reason...
Only GRAW supports ageia physx...

thus giving your card more rocks flames and various other things to render which inturn drop fps.

I think what he is getting at is that it is lowering framerates on games that don't even use the PPU, which doesn't make sense.

There might be a diver conflict going on betweent he PPU and the GPU, that is causing lowered framerates. Try pulling the PPU out and see if the problem goes away.

Hmmm.....

I have tried playing Warmonger & UT3 with and without PhysX card....
And yes...there are framerate drops....

And I have tried playing CS:Source & TF2 and LostPlanet EC .. with and without
PhysX card ...there are NO framerate drops...ether way
(I installed and uninstalled the PhysX drivers every time I switched between
PPU and NON_PPU )

all i'm saying is that with the ppu the fps low point in increased and the top point decreased which gives me a good result on stable fps....my question is why? :confused:

I 'm not sure.... the idea of this PPU is that all physics calculations are performed by the card and let the cpu do the rest... :cool:

BUT they add more things for the GPU and CPU to work on when using a PPU. bigger explosions for the GPU to work on. Basically eye candy is higher.

EDIT: I like the PPU due to that but i will not get one till a lot more games support it. 10FPS loss is exceptable to me. i do wounder what FEAR would of been like with it lol..

FEAR

looks great on my machin, but I have not tried it without the PPU...so I do not really know if the PPU makes a difference...
