    Well, title says it all.

    Nvidia 6800, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950 and their ATI equivalents considered.

As long as they're in good working condition, and AGP.

Why? What system? Because there are mainboards that might be cheaper that will take your existing CPU and memory and give you PCIe.

His rig is PCIe. They never made a 8800 that I know of for AGP, especially a 8800GTX. He is shopping for a friend or family without question.

Still need a price range so we know what you are willing to spend on the new card.

It's not for me - there's a pc Athlon 1900+ @ ~ 2Ghz, 512MB RAM running XP which I need to make available for mid-range gaming (okay not Crysis, but it must run Sims, Spore, and cpu is enough for Oblivion if it has at least a 6800.

Perhaps consider an Atom 330 ION system, using the IGP. Will probably do much better than that old nasty 180nm CPU... be silent... and save you a lot of electricity. You can get them with PCIe slots too... so you can upgrade the graphics if you wanted to.

Good luck finding one used. The best Nvidia listed on Newegg is a 7600 GS for $85. There are all kinds of newer ATI cards available, but beware you'll have driver problems. People have managed to get these working, but not without a lot of hassel.

If you buy new, get this.

    APG 3850

The 2nd most powerful AGP card you can get; however, she will not be gaming on any game with so little RAM. She is going to need to go up to 2 GB to run Oblivion at a decent level. CPU will make it, but may struggle some.

As stated above, between more RAM (DDR1 is expensive) and say that card, you might want to consider an overhaul at this point.

A HD 4200 (785G IGP) will handle HF2 on all high with no AA or AF. Should handle Oblivion with no issue. A new mobo, 4 GB DDR2, and a new CPU will not be that big a difference in price.

Sometime ago PP Mguire offered to sell a 3850 AGP when I thought about keeping my dad's system. I'd PM him to see if he still has it available.

Have you tried craigslist? I've seen lots of decent prices on AGP cards on that site.

if you can do 85 shipped it'd be great and a deal for you cause almost 1/3 of that one goes to shipping.

Cheapest rate looked like $31.40, international shipping is nuts.

    Good price on that 7800GS
