AIO cooler for my Xeon ?

Hi, I am thinking of grabbing an AIO cpu cooler for my gaming / casual use rig (see system specs).

Now I know this would be overkill for a Xeon especially when I have never seen temps
above 62c under load - (crunching WCG all 8 threads and during gaming)

My question is, could I actually do some harm to the cpu running it too cold ?

This morning I booted up, my cpu temp was 19c
I`m guessing with an AIO cooler it may have been 10-15c
surely thats not a healthy temp for just checking email and some net surfing?

My only reasons to purchase an AIO is :

1) Will look great compared to my Scythe air cooler
2) Never had an AIO, so would like to experience new hardware
3) Summer is nearly here (yet I`m sure i`d get by with the Scythe)
4) Have the spare 100 bucks and would like to spend it on my PC
rather than take the girlfriend out for dinner

Ive been looking at the Corsair H75 or NZXT X31
Basically I have read that you should not run cpu`s to cold ?

you temps can never be below room ambient no matter how good the cooler.. the all in ones are not that much better (if any) than good air.. i doubt you will see that much difference..

its air and fans that do the cooling in the end.. all the water does is move the heat to the radiator which is then cooled by good old air and fans.. the main gain is hot air can be blown straight out of the case instead of into it..

Although I cannot find it now, Ive read that prolonged cold temps can make the silicon crack in a cpu hence degrading the
performance over time.

Theres so much mis-information on the net Im not sure what to believe sometimes.

Extra cool temps attract damp, therein the problem lies, i dont think you will have a problem though.
You will not harm your CPU with 10-15 deg.

Spend the money on a new T shirt that says......

What is scythe cooler? Scythe are really good coolers! I don't think you have to worry about your temperature my dual core pentium at idle runs two time hotter than you xeon in my area. The temperature is not too cold it very good. The only too cold you have to consider is humidity otherwise I would not worry much.

The advantage of aio is that you can connect it toward your exhaust ports in your pc case rather than having hot air collect in the case like an air cooler. In some situation moving the hot part away closer outside the case improve cooling. If you have good enough case fans for your air cooler this would not be a problem. The downside for aio is it would be louder than air cooler for it to surpassed air cooling performance. For the same amount of noise aircooler is quieter than aio.

Don't need to spend that $100 on your girlfriend. Just take $10 and cook something from your home and go on a picnic. It would be much healthier and also the good scenery. And you can scores points from your cooking effort.

AOI looks ace, is pretty cheap and it does the job and left me a enough change for "relief" on the way home

Indeed. With a TDP of 80W I guess that helps. Noctis 450 has great air flow and the Scythe cooler does its job so it all adds up to good temps.

Yeah but its no fun just whacking a couple of sticks of Ram in. Dont really need it for my games ATM

Definetly not.

I`m considering the NZXT Kraken X41 as the pump has variable speeds, which would be great to run at low as I don`t actually have a heat problem, I have a hardware fetish problem.

I also expect to be single again by the end of the week.

you can get a 240mm and use it on top, you case has a decent space there… no problems, having you processor little bit colder is not going to be a problem, don’t worry, I did delid on my processor for helping temps to decrease…

thermaltake water 3.0 extreme could be a nice option, I have the water 3.0 pro and is ultra reliable, works fine, max temp is arround 60 on hot days, gaming at night means like 55c maximum on heavy load, using arctic mx 4 on CPU I.H.S. and coollab directly to CPU Die [delid], also i have changed the stock fans on my AIO for having a little more lights..! provided fans with this Watercooling kit are awesome!

The Thermal take 3.0 pro was on my list though the NZXT X31 or X41 with variable pump speed / monitoring software seems to
be a no brainer for me, and the reviews are favourable as well.

Also having a NZXT case there will be no problems , I can either place the rad in the exhaust or intake positions, as well as the roof,
the 400mm hose length allows me all options to experiment with temperature wise, and where it might look better.

I have also been interested to read that a vast majority of aio coolers on the market are re-branded
Asetek`s as they hold the patent.

Well for the money & time required to install the several AIO coolers I have tried, for me it just was NOT worth it when compared to buying & installing some quality fans and running them at low rpms.

FWIW, I currently have 5 case fans in my AIR 540, plus the 2 on my evo212 tower cooler, and I rarely see loaded temps over 34c on my Xeon running @3.9ghz..... most of the time it is ~22-27c....

but as always, YMMV

Agreed, but I want learn and play and hopefully not blow to much money in the process.

I have bought a NZXT X61 on a hardware forum for a good price, hopefully I dont get shafted and the pump is dodgey.

And yes, theres even some money left over to take my girlfriend out for a nibble.

artic target "quiet".. the idea is two 1350 fans on a thicker rad in push pull configuration instead of single fans running over 2000 rpm..

it seem to me that most AIO coolers get their performance by running fast noisy fans.. the artic one wont.. it would be my choice.. mounted in the case top pumping air out of the case..

i have artic pwm case fans and they are pretty quite at 1350 rpm full load.. at browsing loads you cant hear them..

well let me tell ya that water 3.0 is not a silent unit...
but it works flawless! in my particular case... i game with headser .. so i dont care abut loudness on my rig...

Well I'm not sure why you all feel you have to run your fans at such high rpms....no wonder you are so concerned about noise.....

All of my fans are set ro run at 650-800 rpms until the Temps hit 60c, then they all go up 100 rpms for every 10c increase.....
