I just helped 5 people with new builds, and several were very nice systems. All this new hardware passing in front of me and none of it was mine. LOL. It gave me the buyers bug like crazy...

So I ordered a k70 Mechanical Keyboard and a OrbWeaver gaming pad. I been using the same Belkin n52te for 4+ years and it was starting to have some problems. A few of the keys had lost some sensitivity and had to be pushed extra hard to register.

Hopefully this will hold me over until Skylake and the inevitable price drop of Haswell 2011-v3 x99...or so I hope.

Sig rig looks like it has some very nice specs. Was there anything in particular that bugged you, or were you just wanting something new for the sake of new?

Yeah pretty much just want new everything, but there isn't much of a reason to upgrade... It's a case of Want VS Need. LOL.

Will be my first mechanical keyboard though, so that seems cool. Used a buddies and I really liked the way it performed.

Not going to happen. When 49XX-E came out, there was no price drop on 39XX-E. When 59XX-E came out the prices still remained. The enthusiast parts don't really get price reductions, they simply become unavailable. There's a reason Skylake only has 4 cores, not 6 and it's not down to production problems. The six core platform is positioned to be unassailable by Intel's other lines. No point hanging around for price drops - you'll be waiting a long time.

Possible. But Skylake is the tock to Haswells tick. I would expect some sort of a price drop. If not I doubt I will go with Haswell and opt for Skylake since my rig is 80% gaming.

I can't recall ever seeing a price drop on CPU's. They just get older. :(

You both are probably right. Well maybe socket x99 and ddr4 will drop instead.

It also seems like you are trying to convince me to upgrade...and Im okay with that. Help me justify it to myself. lol.

I have same CPU and a 7970 and am planning to hold out for Skylake and Pascal or something equivalent. So yeah, I'd say you can easily cruise for a while with what you have. Meantime DDR4 will only get cheaper, so no big deal.

I am also fit with my platform. After assembling few Haswells on Z97th I definetly fall back to my old X79... I cannot describe, it is more rubust. All those gimmics does not outweight my hexcore running on heavy OC. X99 ain't ready for me. I consider it as a jailbait not ready for hardcore action yet :D.

The only option getting cheaper CPU is getting them used, from burned motherboards mostly... They really remain the price, no matter how old they are.

7970 is dying on me too, but hell I still cannot decide what to buy... The price for new cards does not justify the performance increase.

I the end I will buy another monitor I guess... I want to risk on something funny.

I went from a 7970, to SLI 7970, to the 780ti to SLI 780ti's. The jump from the 7970 to the 780ti was huge...even with my dated chipset.

Will you need to push that chip. Running at 3.5GHz? Should be able to 4Ghz with ease.

What is amazing is how long I have been on socket 1366. It has been an awesome platform and continues to perform very strongly.

You mean struggling to keep up with current games, or actually dying on you? Mine's still managing fine at just the factory OC speed.

@Zen,
Actually it's running at 3.2GHz as shown in my chart. Tried 4 an 3.5. It ran stable on all syn tests and most games, but would start causing artifacting, blue screen, etc. Thus I resolved to drop speed as I was getting tired of it. And mind you I carefully tweaked and tested it.

If my OCing were just for desktop use I'd be running 4GHz still, but unfortunately some of today's poorly coded games are the measuring stick. What's worse is many people are fully aware some chips don't OC well at all, yet when you tell them of such problems, they almost always assume you did something wrong.

My GPU is same way, which is why I leave it at the factory OC. It's ASIC quality is only 61.5 %. That's the bad luck you risk when you buy at low prices late in the model cycle, which I did with both my CPU and GPU.

What's weird is my Palit GTS 250 Green Edition, which is actually a slightly under clocked card, OCed much better than this factory OCed one.

Unfortunately no - Artifacts, had to rise voltage.

The heatpipe construction started to warp, had to put a copper shim.

Already replaced one 75mm fan as it dried out and made some unvanted concerts :D.

You get little sympathy from me...LOL..with your shiny i7 4790k and z97 chipset. Although there is almost always room for improvement eh. I bet you're looking at a 980ti like a single guy in a hot yoga class.

Also..gotta say I setup my new k70 last night and it is a very nice keyboard and all...but it hardly scratched the upgrade itch.

I dont really have that problem, just execpt Im trying to "upgrade" a little bit almost every month. Now I just wait for my new ram to arrive, do I need them.........hhhmmmm not at all, but I bourght it anyway. Since Fury Ive desided to wait until next time arround to upgrade my GFX, since it has to run stabile in 1280X768(joke).

Every time I think that way I know deep down I've been tempted by the 4790k myself, and can easily afford such an upgrade, then I look at Skylake, the 6700s, DDR4, and that sweet Z170 chipset and I think, nah, I'm good.

Plus I'm itching to see what Pascal will be like.

Even though the latest cpuz screenshot of the 6700K running at 5Ghz with under 1v are probably fake I suspect there is some underlying truth to it. That makes me happy because I have a nice watercooled place for it to call home.
