Again this looks like a realllll good card.

I might just bite the bullet and buy this one.

The difference between the two I linked (HIS & this Sapphire) seem to be slight performance differences (according to TPU reviews) and a difference of outputs.

The HIS offers 1 DVI, 1 HDMI, 2 miniDP whereas the Sapphire offers 2 DVI, 1 HDMI, 1 DP.

Whats the difference between miniDP and normal DP?

I don't know about prices in the UK, but I can say that Sapp VX coolers are pretty darn good. I have an old HD5770 VX and even under heavy load, like gaming, I don't recall seeing go pass 60C.....but it's been a while since I'd used it for any kind of gaming. The VX cooler generally allows for good OCing as well, assuming the core and mem are up to scratch that is.

I think I am gonna go with this -http://www.waeplus.co.uk/product/1968799/HIS-Radeon-HD-7950-IceQ-X2-Boost-Clock--

Seems a bargain at that price considering its performance is on par with a 670 (according to http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/HD_7950_X2_Boost/28.html)

My only problem now is that it seems to be slightly big for my case...Measurements of the card are 31.1 x 15 x 4.2 cm compared with the case http://www.freshtechsolutions.co.uk...er-pc-case-with-side-window-blue-led-fan.html

Also, PSU should be capable?

No. It will take only 27 cm long cards.

Couldn't recommend a decent case that would be capable of fitting that card? Cheap is good.

EDIT: Cooler Master Elite 335U Black Mini Tower Case seems decent?

so what case did u end up getting? b4 i upgraded to the one i have now,i had a huge hd6990 in an xblade case,i just put my ssd n hdd in the bottom drive bay behind the 120mm intake fan and took the middle cage out,so there was loads of room for the monster.ps just double checked(i still have it for my 2nd comp thats not built yet) and its only held in with a couple of screws.the bottom bay can hold 2 hdd and you could always put more in the empty dvd bays.

I faced the choice recently between a 660ti or a 670. I looked at AMD but some of the games that I'm currently playing offer PhysX support so I ended up staying with Nvidia. I ended up picking the 670 and I'm very pleased with its performance. Looking ahead to things like Crysis 3 it appears to offer some headroom for the future as well.

yeah its swings n round abouts, whats good for 1 is bad for the other, but its usually not by loads of fps,btw when you install ati cards you also need to install physX,and in bf3 turn off msaa(dont know about other games),me,well i'l just keep plodding along with my old hd 6990..the flaming power hungry, screaming hairdrier(until i put the arctic cooler on),,with the framecounter on msi afterburner hitting the max(200fps) at times,,oh well it'll have 2 do 4 now..:)

As it happens I have stuck with my current XBlade case as there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Its got plenty of scratches and is I think 6 or 7 years old but does the job.

I looked at the middle cage and I do not think that it can be taken out hence why I was looking in to buying another case. However, upon taking measurements again I realised that it would probably JUST fit if im lucky. If not im going to have to grind a notch out of the 2nd cage as its not used.

Anyway Ill make sure to see if it can be taken out, I imagine it should be removable.

I was sooo tempted to just go for a 670, but in the end the GPU I selected is reviewed to be within 1% of a GTX 670 at 1080p at nearly 1/3 of the price. And overclocking it puts it above a 680 I think.

Another thing that swung in the 7950's favour was that it has 3GB as apossed to 2GB and 384 against 256

the xblade case i'm on about has the psu at the bottom,i dont know if yours is the same,i know this 1 in my bedroom has 2 screws into the main body, but hell yeah man get the hacksaw out if needed, couple of cathodes n ur good 2 go,.i also read up on the hd 7950,i was going to buy 2,but decided i'm in no rush to get them, but overclocking looks very good on them,,,,as for the msaa settings i was left undecided after reading this bf3 settings guide

If you can get a 7950 3GB for around the same price you spec'd out the 660TI for then jump on it. The new AMD performance drivers have really upped some of output of the 7 series.

sounds like the first xblade i had(black)with the psu at the top,i think this 1 (silver, less dust) is the newer model, they;ve made a few changes from the old type, this one has screwless drive holders, although i still use screws, and yeah the latest 12,11 drivers are supposed to have done a lot for the 7xxx cards, got me thinking again,if you keep an eye on that site they get some right bargains in,the case only cost me 70,just had a quick look and there are 2 diff 7970's both at £280,,,,let me check my bank balance,,,hehe

Well to update you guys, the GPU arrived today.

Was pretty excited so got straight to it.

The GPU doesn't fit..but I made it fit without making any adjustments. Its about 2mm too long, but I managed to get it in by moving things one way or the other. Got it seated, plugged the leads in, and away I went.

Absolutely beautiful can't fault the performance at all. Absolutely destroys everything at 1080p maxed, getting liquid smooth gameplay now with all eye candy :)

Also temperatures don't go over 48c and the fan doesn't seem to go above 39%. So all in all, for an amazingly well performing card it also runs cool and is very quiet under load. I had read in the review that is very loud at idle, but I can't seem to hear it. Also under load I can't hear it, but I suspect that it may be capped at 39%?
