Samsung P2 or P3 - 3inch mp3 player from samsung, look it up,

Cowon D2 - 50 hours battery life, has sdhc slot, 2.5 inch touch screen. EQ, and BBS and mach3bass.

Iaudio 7- even more battery life but 1.8 inch screen

Iriver also has a few you might like.

not much more I'd honestly recommend in reality I would just say d2 the d2 is one sick player bottom line, then the p2 but only if you got some cash to let go of.

also you may want to invest in a pair of headphones, I know I did and I'm pretty happy with them.

+1 on the Zune. I've loved my thing forever and a day.. A year now I've had the 1st gen, and it hasn't giving me but a problem when the firmware updated

Songbird is a much better alternative to iTunes, much lighterweight then iTunes anyways. Lots of plugins/addons for it. As for your mp3 player dilemma, It really just comes down to preference. I personally prefer the older generation iPods. I recently bought a 120gb iPod Classic for 249.99 at BestBuy. It in my opinion is much better then the touch...

However if you are looking for an alternative to the iPod; Creative makes some good mp3 players. The X-Fi version are a little more hype then bang for the buck like their other players, but then again that is preference.

The zune isn't really comparable to the touch, more similar to a classic w/ fm radio and DRM out the ass (and in the current market are also overpriced compared to the ipod classic). I'm sure there's some ways to make it do what it should, but, anyway, afaik they don't make one like the touch.

But there is no DRM on the music I have for Zune... I download music from better sources. Why would you want something like the touch anyways? Touchscreens are smudgy, expensive, and just plain lame. Who needs games on their MP3 player? They have enough of those on cell phones.

Myself I just paid 50$ for a Palm Centro which doubles as a 2gb MP3 player, phone, internet device with touchscreen (with stylus to not smudge it up), and lite gaming device.

Everybody has their preferences. Some people probably like the perks of the iphone and don't want to pay $70/month for the phone part. Thus, the touch.

They do not REQUIRE iTunes, There are plugins for a lot of media applications that allow you to manage every aspect of it. Winamp, SongBird(Firefox in a media player) both do this task flawlessly, and are both fairly straight forward.

Not for the touch. I actually bought fits touch and played around with it for a good few weeks, before I decided that I was going to fix my Zune and use that again, I really didn't like it.

Proper WiFi. homebrew apps, can download apps. Pretty customisable firmware (in relation to the Zune).

But terrible software, lesser sound quality, and a really horrible interface.

If you want a good MP3 player, rather than a do-all device, avoid Apple and their cheap junk at all costs.

The Zune software is terrible in comparison to iTunes. I really liked iTunes, so much easier to organise your music, however it's video capabilities were far from.....half-decent. Only ever found 2 of my video files, Zune finds and converts them all on the fly.

Lesser sound quality, DEFINATELY, the bass is weak compared to the Zune, it just sounds "meatier" on the Zune.

The interface is "nice", but that's it. Things seemed to be in odd places you'd never think to look...maybe it's just me though heh.

I actually hate Itunes, I load up Zune, tell it where the music I like is, and just drag and drop. It's simple, easy, and efficient.

Same with iTunes actually, one thing that did annoy me, it took 7 hours to add my entire music collection (over 200Gb honestly). It takes 1 and a half with Zune.
