To an extent I do think its quite gimmicky and irrelevant.. the fact that there isn't really anyone supplying frameless monitors for 3x2.. even if they do why not just buy a big as TV instead of sticking shit together?

BUT Its not entirely irrelevant... I think things should be focused on 3x1 eyefinity, because it BADASS! and rather than distributing the image to 6 different monitors its just adding 2 more monitors worth of very very sexy FOV!

again,it is not possible to get as high of a resolution with just a big screen. and HDTV will go 1080p max, a big monitor will go what, 1200? what if you want/need more than that?

graphic design, video editing, research, science, the list goes on. there are more than enough uses for 3x2. just gaming is not one of them.

Damn you would have to get 1 large ass monitor to equal that work space and you still probably wont get the same overall resolution.

Well said. I can imagine someone getting a 69inch screen with 6144x1152 Resolution and 80k:1 DC Ratio. One of my screens is more than 1080p res (2048x1152). I got all three for $1000. I would like to see someone who fancy getting a huge TV to try and beat my DELLs at a cost lower than $1000. :p

Adaptation is very slow. DVI is still the defacto standard and DisplayPort has zero compatibility with DVI which just makes matters more complicated. I'm not saying there aren't DisplayPort products on the market because their obviously are but, for example, at Newegg, there are 159 monitors with at least one DVI port and only one that has DisplayPort. Talk about massively limited selection. Why did AMD/ATI not put mini-DVI ports on those cards instead of DisplayPort? It makes no sense, no sense at all.

Makes perfect sense. It's a better standard, and now there is another company pushing it, therefore adoption should increase, and it will become a more relevant standard. Gotta start somewhere. Personally, I'm all for the attempt to move the industry to a higher performance, royalty free standard.

I remember someone on here explaining that DP doesn't need the same clock signals that DVi and VGA do so perhaps it's also cheaper on the video cards to have 6 DP rather than DVI?

3-1 is great especially if you got some nice thin beseled Monitors. 3-2 is not so great IMO.

As other's here have mentioned allready, a 3-1 setup is awsome, I dont have this setup but I have seen them in action and they rock, I would like to see a single Monitor or tv setup pull off thos kind of resoloutions.

Bumbbbbpp.

A video at PC Perspective shows two different solutions to curved displays. The first one was really cool, the second one is more of a meh imo. They are making progress though.

This thing will become useful when they start making frameless LCD monitors...
Besides, i don't like the FOV which always looks like you're looking through a binoculars turned the other way around. It's just distorted vision and looks like crap. It's the same for both, AMD and NVIDIA.

that's actually not true. it sucks at 2, but it is still eyefinity. I questioned this after a few responses in other posts but after reading up on atis docs , 2 monitor spread is still eyefinity. it's just not useful for gaming at all...

eyefinity is specifically the technology that allows you to span your desktop across multiple monitors (2-6 with one card) AND select that custom resolution in programs that require resolution settings, such as games.

what makes it good for business is that it allows 3-6 monitors to be driven off of one GPU, while it is possibe without it to have a multimonitor setup, to have them properly extended and running off the smallest number of GPUs possible, eyefinity is where it's at.

Oh I know that its not just 3, it can really be any number, 2 wide, 3 wide, 4 wide, 5 wide. But I just meant, the one I see used the most is 3 and thats the one I see advertised the most, like you say, just not a point in 2 monitor gaming. I really want to run 3, but I want 28", so thats expensive :(

welkll eyefinity turns as many monitors as you have into 1 so theoretically, when you go full screen on prOn it would display it across all the eyefinity monitors but the quality would probably degrade do to how many monitors you have

I think the idea needs some innovation to help push it into the gaming world. I agree using 3 or 6 monitors as a single monitor is kinda dumb so let the monitor do something else. Have a game like Mech Warrior display the field and hud on the center in a 3 by 1. Then have a full screen radar on the left and weapons/tact readout on the right. You can use the system to simulate the actual cockpit of the mech. I have seen it done in a D & B before and it was epic.

In other games, a constant display can be used for a number of things that can help reduce the need for additional menus. And when Eyefidelity and a second or third monitor is not present, default back to the menu system.

Another example with just 2 monitors Crysis 2 with a second monitor that shows a full body readout of your current status. Damage, where the damage is, fighting potential, current weapons, etc. To change weapons of suite features you can hold say CTRL to let the game know you are change screen focus and use hot keys. And the best thing is, you can display which hotkeys to press on the screen forever without it being annoying so the player doesn't have to worry about remembering 2 sets of key configurations.

It actually is a major selling point for a certain market of people. C'mon man. Eyefinity is amazing. Even a guy with two 14" CRT will hook them up together to see the wonders of Eyefinity if that person had a 5xxx card. And this is a major selling point for gaming like Strategy games( just imagine your range of view in games like WoW and CnC) and even racing games like NFS Shift. Because you can then see both sidemirrors and able to see both sides or the car as well, and also... What about 1st person shooters??? The range of view is amazing. No one will be able to come close to you from front or the sides. And as Dr Pepper said for games like FSX etc.

To the mass market I don't think it is that big of a selling point. It doesnt really need to be, the 5000 series is a fantastic series and that feature is just a bonus.
