lol
well spotted! fixed

OP if you could fix my results that be brillaint : ]

I've a 6870 not 6970 : ] also I've had to up the volts to 1.2 for stability as well.

I think my heatsink might be broken though, my temps are the same as everyone elses really lol

I think everyone else got their results with the stock fan at 100% and that truly is loud enough to cause hearing damage

I know my result was and i know my right ear (one facing the computer) actually hurt by the time i was done running some stability testing, i have been leaving my 6870 at stock speeds just so i don't have to put up with the crazy loud fan

Nice to see you only needed a 0.025v increase to get it stable at 1ghz, i only managed 1ghz stable with stock volts when running freezing cold air to the cards so not exactly standard ambient temps.

ahh cheers for making me feel better about temps bear :p

I suppose my heatsink is doing it very quitely!

I think I might get better results if I bought a scyth gentle typhoon for it though, it has a very dense fin array.

Although if moonpig hasn't sold his 5870 cooler the 3rd I'll be getting that :p ( it fits)

If I switch run furmark with no fancy stuff I get these results

Since I seem to be the only person with a bigh ass heatsink on a 6870, I might try for 1100mhz so I can be the winnar of this thread lol

A better fan would probably drop your temps a nice amount, maybe something like the 1850 RPM scythe gentle typhoon although I'm not sure how loud they are so the 1450rpm one may be a little better balance of noise and cooling.

Although using a zalman vf1000 with an industrial ducting fan and an open window with inches of snow outside i only managed 1070mhz with that card so I'm unsure if 1.1ghz would be possible without some even more crazy cooling  kind of sucks though as even at 1.3v the card I'm using only likes about 1010mhz without using crazy cold ambient temps.

Ahh never mind , was worth thinking about :p

Oh by the way, was wondering if If I could modify the stock shroud and the pci-e backplate without voiding warranty ? :D

Because if I made the airflow less restricted in their I'm sure it will drop temps a good 5c with the stock cooler.

I'm curious what you would intend to do with it but as long as what you do does not short out the card i can't see a problem with that.

For all you HD6850 owners. I'm curious what your O/C was at stock. My max is 900mhz.

Also, Why won't any O/C programs allow me to overvolt my Asus 6850?....:(

With Afterburner, I have enabled it but it doesn't allow me and this is what I get with Smart Doctor.:(
