AMD 7970 owners, what does your VRM 1 and 2 temp reach during long gaming sessions?

I have a Gigabyte 7970 WF3. VRM's are at 80C during gameplay, but rise to 100C when I overclock to 1200MHz. Ambient is still pretty warm, 28-32C.

With stock cooler I went probably to 70cish max. With my artic accellero on the 7970 I was at 80c stock and 100+ when overclocked. All those were max temps after load for awhile. I assumed my artic did not put enough airpressure down on the vrm heatsinks

VRM1 and VRM2 stay around 70°C with max overclock. I have a water block on the core and an 80mm fan pointed at the heatsinks I placed on the VRM area.

Phusius, what did you do to your card!? I'd try to throw up my numbers for you but since they are wc'd, it won't help all that much.
I hope the RMA goes well for you, GL with it! I've never had to send anything to MSI; I hope they're accommodating.

I owned two (XFX) and the both died after less than 8760 run hours flat out, OK OC'ed. I didn't pay attention to VRM temps so really I shouldn't be posting here :) but just couldn't resist this ^

So am i the only one to say my 280x Vapor is realy cool?
I got my PC temps a little adjusted.
Everything exept GPU is running at 35C or maybe below at full load, and GPU gets to max of 65C at full load.
VRMS are nice and cool all the way so im not woried. What i am curious is how people with reference cards get 70+ temps when mine, oc edition 1150/1500 mhz can only get to 65C??
I guess you need to do some work on your case airflow to keep GPU nice and cool.

If this is directed to me than I can say that my GPUs have been run in winter, in an otherwise not heated room (no need with two 7970s) in an open bench with a fan on top. But yes these things run hot and need a hefty air flow in a box.

It was not ment for anyone. I just pointed that out because a lot of people with reference cards and stock clocks compain about high temps, while mine oced, and custom cooler, runs realy cool, but my case has 8 fans ( including cpu, gpu and psu).

I have a Sapphire 7970 Dual X, and in Furmark after 5 min the GPU has leveled off at 75c, while VRM 1 is 88c, and VRM 2 is 85c. That's with the stock factory OC, and dual fan air cooler, and stock fan settings btw.

Sure Furmark does indeed put more stress and heat on a card than games, but any decent aftermarket cooler that most cards have now should be able to handle it easily.

That said, my Antec DF-85 case provides ample cooling, which matters a lot with aftermarket cooler cards that don't exhaust out the back of the case. I also added a side fan that blows directly on the side of the GPU.

@manofthem was using them for Folding@home or WCG. I don't remember which at the time.

it dumps the warm air into the case rather than out the back so extra fannage is handy.
