Praying for the day AMD drivers allow you to force an adaptive (2d type clocks) profile for individual programs. That was one awesome feature from Nvidia.

I noticed this in PS2 as well. Thanks for the heads-up.
That would be x16, x16, x8(order may vary). X79 supports 40 PCIe lanes.

Great post overall, lots of good info for Tri-Fire guys. Maybe they've finally fixed CFX for three- and four-card users?

My desktop BSOD'ed on installing the driver, same as the previous, but besides that, it seems solid.

"Key not valid for install in specified state"

    "Package Manager Install Package Failure!"

...and now I have no CCC and no D&D transcoding. Neat.

EDIT - Something's corrupted in the registry. The "key not valid" message is from the VC++ 2012 Redistributable, and since CCC relies on the VC++ 2012 runtime and .NET, the installer apparently won't install it unless VC++ 2012 Redist installs correctly.

VC++ 2012 Redist was already in place on the system, BTW. After uninstalling VC++ 2012 and attempting to install it standalone, it refuses to install. Microsoft's fixes for that problem do notheeng, just like the goggles.

I don't neccessarily blame AMD for corrupting my registry, but I do blame them for poor error messages (and Microsoft, too). The user shouldn't have to deduce where an error is coming from by method of elimination and blind trial and error. This is a fresh OS install ~2 months old so IDFK what happened but feck it, I'll just wipe the SSD and reinstall; registry snafus are rarely worth the effort.

...and for the record, this is the first problem I've had with an AMD driver install in a long, LOOONG time, and pretty sure that last time was VC++ refusing to install correctly as well; last time before that was .NET on XP.

Driver appear to work for the most part with my 6870 however everything that uses DXVA (GPU accelerated video playback) suddenly stopped working. Slightly annoying.

Updated to Cat. 14.7 RC3, started getting random blackouts, couple of hours later my primary HD 6990 died.
Great day, almost managed to launch Watch_Dogs too.

I've felt that my 6870s have been pretty stable. Granted they've been out long enough that I would expect them to work for the most part at this point.

Apart from this in the release notes:
[404660]: GPU gets stuck in a low power state after it was previously stressed to max power

Seriously, this gets WHQL-ed? It doesn't say when "max power" event happens, is it when you make 100% GPU load or when it starts throttling or what?

i'm going to assume that bug doesnt happen all the time. I'm idling as i should, and i've been gaming + using youtube on these drivers.

if i had to guess, its a bug that has been around for a while, and they havent found the cause yet to resolve it. kinda like how crossfire users get their second card stuck at max clocks sometimes.
