I don't see this as a bad thing for them, if they aren't making any money by tossing out more silicon and by giving it away at cost and can turn their fate and the fate of ATI around by making good business moves and perhaps learning something.....why not.

Intel had to take a step back from some of their ideas and just realize they are not masters of the universe, and once they stopped butting their heads against the wall out popped Conroe.

AMD's business plan seemed to be that of two people buying high and selling low, then trying to make up for it by doing more volume.

Intel is the size of about 30 AMD's. Competition is what Intel dictates competition is.

yum and right now intel is worried a bout a shrinking desktop/server market and an increasing mobile market where there are several competitiors.

So they're unlikly to give an inch to AMD on the desktop/server end.

So it's
1. AMD execs looking at market, market is going mobile.
2. Looks at Intel, Intel isn't giving any ground.
3. Looks at mobile market, several competitors that don't have near AMD's resources.
4. Looks at Intel in the mobile market, sees the've had a hard time infiltrating it (ironic considering where intel started)

the only logical thing to do is to follow the market and go mobile, at least for the moment. They can always change the strategy is the market ever reverses. But the way things are going I doubt it.

i dunno maybe this is just a rumor, ARM is a strong player in mobile device
mobile device now grows pretty fast and maybe thats one of reason why AMD interested in mobile
but if AMD left the market and go to mobile, they will make Intel as the only and only player

i hope its just rumor
