AMD posted a new Catalyst driver (8.93.7 RC10) specifically for Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The driver is WDDM 1.2 compliant, and supports all launched AMD Radeon GPUs from HD 5000 thru HD 7000 series (except HD 7900 and HD 7700); AMD A-Series, C-Series, and E-Series APUs; FirePro, and FirePro 3D series products. Highlights include:
    • Native Stereo 3D support: Windows 8 will natively support Stereo 3D for full-screen and windowed gaming, and video applications
    • Unified Video API – Video playback is now integrated within the DirectX 11 API; enabling simultaneous high quality Video and 3D content, and the potential for enhanced video transcoding performance
    • Optimized screen rotation
    • Improved sleep / resume performance
    • Optimized Power Consumption

I like how it says it includes cards from HD 5000 through 7000 then promptly says that it doesn't include the 7000 series. Way to contradict yourselves, AMD.

This driver causes my laptop(with mobility 5650) to hang with a black screen after installing these drivers.

Nope, there are some mobility 7000 series launched for OEM's aswell.

Those are just rebranded 6400-6700's however, so they're actually not supporting real 7000 series cards(with the new architechture and stuff).

They did that support for 79xx and 77xx comes later this week.

Learn to read? It doesn't say anywhere on AMD's page that the HD7000 is supported. So no there is no contradiction...
