Well, I got my 7970 for about $370 a couple days ago, so I don't see where you get that $1100 from
Exactly. If they lowered the prices on the 7850 - 7970-cards even further (and 7770) and only released the 89xx cards it might work, but it would still be too early imo. The 68xx cards are still plenty in stock, and they would be pushed right away (or would compete with the 77xx cards) and AMD's lineup would get very confusing. They have to clear out some stock before going forward.
So $370 in crossfire = $1100?
I guess that is 3 card Crossfire then.
He was talking about on release date.. That's why he didn't upgrade his 6970's to 7970's.. because of the little performance gain, and that it would cost 1100 bucks then to upgrade... $550 + $550 = $1100 or $550 * 2 = $1100 or 2 * $550 = $1100 Damn my math skills are amazing.. lol j/k On a side note if this 8970 comes in under $450 it would kickass.
Ok, since he made his post on Aug 23.
I assumed that with current pricing
No problem buddy, English is tough stuff. Just remember "was" is past tense.
Skip _a_ generation? Huaaahahhahaha! I'm still rockin a 4850 X2 because it still does the frackin job and my 'peen is greater than those that judge it. Ask my gf.
Pshhh. It's not begging you, that too-human desire for self destruction is talking to you in wallet-speak like "feeeed me Seymourrrrr"
Here's an idea...let's switch to medium detail settings! What? Not good enough? Well go piss on your balls!
Spoken like a resident of a non-capitalist country that has a Pirate political party
You're in China. They make computer hardware there.
Commonwealth countries just might Crossfire your wallet in your ass if you step in that path. Oh, and VAT can be a bitch!
My last 17 years on the interwebs has taught me this one immutable fact: no matter what an Englishman says, English is hard for even Englishmen!
I'm sure I am alone on this, but I want to see this card doing working with JtR. Ever since I sold my 7970 my hash cracking has been super slow
Quintessentially perfect response.
I would as well to be honest. took the words right out of my mouth...or keys.
Wouldn't they clear stock by deep cuts to the HD 6000s. I don't think the 6000s would compete with the HD 7000s. I can see it this way the HD 8900's become the high end, the HD 7900's become the mid and the HD 6900's become the low. This could put alot of pressure on the green team if AMD choose to do it.
I doubt we'll see 8xxx series card by end of '12, more than likely will be a '13 Feb/March launch, maybe even later. The market is flooded right now and there aren't really many games ATM pushing GFX to the limits
Oh and 30% - 40% faster What are you sm0king/sn0rting/sh0oting/d0sing? cuz i want some
The way they are cutting prices on their current models leaves more room up top. They could just go ahead and start selling 8970/8950's, price them above all else and people would still buy them regardless of the current console game port situation.
Yeah...PC gaming is still relatively expensive but a much improved situation over years past.
They're only cutting $$$ to make Nvidia look even worse this round lol. There is still too much "old" stock in the market they need to clear out before bringing in the new stuff
They have to maximize their returns on every product and if they were to release the 8xxx series Q4 of '12 i think it would do more harm than good. Unless Nvidia surprises everyone with the real Keppler i don't see it coming to market so soon. Paper launch, maybe. Hard launch with product in sales channels and on shelves, doubt it.
Just my $0.02 anyways
I guess they are referring to their flagship 7970? If so, the 8970 will be
10-15% better than GTX 680? Oh snap.
Seriously, don't both camps almost always say 30% better but fall flat when it arrives?
Meh, my gtx580 can handle every game flawlessly.
Thats why i keep buying bling for my pc lol. WC, cases, fans etc.
Would you expect anything else? I got $1100 into my 2x 7970's, if you want to play, you got to pay. Unless you wait, then you don't pay so much, but then the next gen looms.
They should wait till middle of next year before even considering a 8970. If anything release a 7980. 7960 which have bulked innards n not just a clock boost
So it appears my thoughts.... far from correct, HD7990 will come out after all....
Oh well they appear to be on track, lets wait for HD89xx hopefully soon
If that's the cooler required to keep the 7990 from melting, I don't see AMD manufacturing a vanilla one.
I read an article on this site stating AMD isnt launching a reference board. Amd stated 3rd parties can make 7990s/x2 boards.
Powercolor Devil 13 HD 7990 officially launched
