AMD Shows Off Radeon HD 6990 Dual-GPU Graphics Card.

According to XBit Labs and specially to ITOC,

Advanced Micro Devices has demonstrated the graphics card that is expected to be most powerful on the planet. Based on two leading-edge code-named Cayman graphics processing units (GPUs), the novelty is supposed to enable exceptional performance in modern games at high resolutions.

Rick Bergman, the head of product group at AMD, showed off the graphics card that is expected to replace the ATI Radeon HD 5970. The novelty is projected to offer higher performance than the previous-generation product and improve speed in demanding video games.

The card itself does not look extraordinary: it definitely is large, but it seems that it can fit into majority of computer cases utilized by performance enthusiasts.

AMD's Radeon HD 6990 is expected to be based on two Cayman GPUs.

Well so far AMD got them most 2 powerful cards on the planet, let's see how nvidia will respond to this

I will be surprised if the dual-GPU is in fact based on 2 stock clocked 6970's, and not just 2 underclocked 6970's that will perform the same as 2 6950's in xfire.

How can something like that be passive cooled? I do find that hard to believe. Your right though, the fan is probably just covered in the photo.

Dual Copper Heat Sink with the fan in the middle always works the best.

my hope is copper sinks with vapor chambers and either one or two fans.

Well, the looks aren't doing much for it. It needs benchmarks to build up hype (even those biased, pure PR crap, ones, I don't care). But I'm hoping this will come to the stores soon and I can't wait to see nVidia's response to this.
