AMD announced first shipments of its 2nd generation accelerated processing units (APUs), under its A-Series "Trinity", and E/C-series "Brazos 2.0" lines. The new 2012 APUs by AMD, according to Senior PR Manager Phil Hughes, "improve on virtually every aspect of [the] current A-Series APUs while doubling the performance-per-watt over our previous generation." The APUs are available in FM2 uPGA for desktops, and FS1r2 uPGA, FP2 BGA for notebooks; targeting nearly all PC form-factors. Pictured below, is the very first shipment heading out to ASUSTek.

been waiting for trinity for so long! This is the way to go for any PC that isnt purely for gaming. and the internal GPU allows for games like WOW SC2 TF2 if needed :)

I cant beleive the first shipment was sent in a such a small box, in a shitty truck.

AMD must be short on money.

Good to see it's heading out. I would assume that would make us one to two months away from them being on store shelves

    you know what?

f**k the truck, the driver probably took it halfway down the road then dropped it off with a rickshaw who had to take it the rest of the journey.

the truck is just a publicity stunt.

If the truck doesnt get pursued by 2 armed gangs driving black Audi A8's and firing AK's out the window with one guy firing a random RPG with explosions and loud noises everywhere for a few miles then yeah, they are on a budget.

Im watching a live feed of Wizard trying to pursue the truck with trinity chips, lot of explosions going on, and even then the framerate is pretty good so i say we got a winner with trinity

Jokes aside, I wonder how many Trinities are there in those boxes. If they are packing it densely, I think the count looks like its in the thousands per box.

It is just a decoy, the real shipment is sent with secret nuclear submarines - between the boxes of vodka.

Clearly, that's nVIDIA's shipping terminal. It says so right there on the sign on the pillar to the right. It says "Recycle holding area", see? That's exactly where they ship all those rebranded GPUs.

Two shady dudes in masks can be shipping it for all I care, . . . . . seriously who cares who ships it if it gets to its destination unharmed, who cares.

They are going to ODMs so they don't need to individually box them. Likely they did pack quite a lot into those. A count in the 1000s I wouldn't be surprised by.

Assuming these boxes are 1000x600x400mm each. Since they go to ASUS, the're most likely FS1r2 laptop cpus. I'm also assuming the packing size of each CPU is 10x50x50mm.
That makes 9.600 CPUs, probably a little less since the package will have some padding on the inside. So in the end, it's still over 9000 CPUs per box - with an OEM price of 50 US$ per CPU, that makes about 450.000 US$ per box. :twitch:

thats one of few shipments kid, you must be running intel/nvidia anyway:shadedshu

On topic I can only assume that FM2 Will Eventually Replace AM3+ as the Mainstream/Performance Desktop market after 2 more Gens of CPUs

I think you won't see that happen until further down the road, and it will probably come with a switch from PGA to LGA, or at least I hope it will. It would be nice of AMD to consolidate their platform more. If they had a single socket--we'll call it FM3--that supported all their desktop CPU's, they would be better off.

They were so freaking slow making brazos 2.0, and lets face it... First E-generation was too freaking slow for 1080p video playback without GPU acc.....
Because of the long wait, I ended up going all in, sandy bridge dualcore instead, power consumption of my i3-2100 setup is less than 10W higher in load, and 3W higher idle, than my E350... - and the E350 had a 5-10% more effecient PSU solution (picopsu)

Well You have to realize they are doing the platform thing that Intel Is doing

I mean You have 2011, 1155 and Socket G1, G2 with 1155 already being axed for 1150 and 2011/1366 for Servers

I mean What You say I definitely agree with considering Skt A had everything from Mobile CPUs to the 2 Way CPUs (Which the Athlon XP could be modded to become a MP easily)

Also I feel you might be right because they are having better yields with G34 and C32 in the Opteron Market

i agree, but why would you play 1080p without DXVA?

The Main Focus on the APU is the onboard GPU, Decent CPU power with a better GPU than intel and vias solutions.

    Its a balanced platform.
