Basically I've had this virus for a couple of months and it's getting worse. It spams all my hotmail contacts with http://www.aqs3.medxdrugx.com (P.S. DON'T OPEN THE LINK!)

Anyway, I've tried malwarebytes anti malware, avast full scan. I can;'t really be arsed to reformat and install windows again.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance :toast:

You can also try Spybot S&D it has a free version and always helps me with nasty viruses and malware

ComboFix or HijackThis if you know what you're doing.

Any chance you signed in somewhere fishy with your Live ID? In that case, you're not gonna find any malware on your PC.

First things first: change your hotmail credentials from another PC. Theres tons of "dumb" spambots out there who just do a keylog. Changing your password from another PC will render 80% of them useless, stopping most spam in its tracks.

If there is a virus/trojan, then try this:

    1. First, delete any back-ups that may contain said virus\trojan.
    2. Turn off system restore and remove any restore points.
    2a. Clear your system pagefile.
Or, you can use something like this (Ultimate Windows Tweaker v 2.1) to do it, too, if you are uncomfortable working in the registry.
    3. Run Superantispyware
    4. Run NPE (Norton Power Eraser); it does not load or install anything - it is self contained and has to be downloaded to be updated.
    5. Run HiJackThis and post the log to be perused by some knowledgeable people( I believe there are a couple on this board.)
    6. Run "SFC /scannow" from a administrative command prompt. (without the quotes and a <space> between the "C" and "/")
    7. Try this: Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2010
Installation Guide of Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2010
How Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2010 automatically removes viruses
How to manually disinfect your computer using Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool 2010
    8. Run this from a boot disk or bootable usb drive. Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10

If all else fails you can try combofix, but this should be your last choice.
And, if that fails, re-install and be careful if you save any files from the infected disks.

    Goodluck!:)

    Edit: added step 2a.
