CrossfireX 4830+4770?

Sup folks. As recently i've had my 2900XT replaced with a 4830. (Yes that sucks because the 4770 came out a month later after that . Could have asked asus to replace it with 4770). I'm looking to go crossfire. Since the 4770 is just $20 more expensive then then 4830, should i get the 4770?

Asus EAH4770 Radeon 4770 512MB DDR5 SGD$179
Asus EAH4830 Radeon 4830 512MB DDR3 SGD$159

Prices are in my currency. Divide by .4 and you get the USD prices.

i don't understand why the HD4770 is much more expensive than the HD4830?!
The prices should be about the same.

But if I were you , and had the money, I'd buy 2 x HD4770 in crossfire.

Fast , matches/beats the GTX 285 , and that only for 200$!

I wouldn't mind going for the 4770. But my current rig has a 4830. I don't wanna spend on 2 4770. Just buying one card.
Also the 4770 is a new card out thus the price. Even if it drops, the 4830 would be no more.

go for one 4830, price vs performance of 2 of those in crossfire cannot be beaten.

Buy another 4830. It would be silly to spend so much on two brand new cards when a 4830 crossfire system can handle practically anything you throw at it, AND 4830's are great overclockers. Obviously the 4770 crossfires would be better, but not marginally. Save your money and enjoy great performance with 2 4830's

I agree, get another 4830 since the 4770 costs more and it would be a lot cheaper than selling your 4830 and getting 2 4770s.

I would have to say that the GDDR5 plays a big role in the price of the 4770 over the 4830.

My vote goes towards the 4830. I have two and for what I paid for them it just can't be beat!! Everything I've played I can max out, not heard since my monitor's max res is 1680 x 1050.

It can be beaten by 2 x HD4770 :)

Umm, I don't think so. 4830 has a higher performance per dollar ratio than the 4770. So 2 4830s in CF will have a higher performance per dollar ratio than 2 4770s in CF, assuming they scale identically.

Like others have said, I'd get the 4830. The 4770 is only a tad faster than the 4830 and it would be a waste to get 2 4770s when you already have a 4830. 4830 CF is on GTX 280 levels, so it's no slouch. :rockout:

Wow thanks for the many opinions. Yup. If i could sell my 4830 for SGD$100 i wouldn't mind getting two 4770. But no many are hardware freaks in singapore.

not even close.

stock clocks:
4830: 575
4770: 750

memory type:
4830: gddr3
4770: gddr5

bus width:
4830: 256-bit
4770: 128-bit

memory speed:
4830: 1800MHz
4770 3200MHz

4830 and the 4770 have only one notable thing in common, 640 SP's

imo the 4770 is the little brother of the upcomming 5800 series, kinda like a sneak peak.

I agree they have little in common. But not that this is a pre-5x00. This is more like a 4870 with lower SP's and a smaller manufacturing process.

sure other 4830 it is more wisely , and 4830 in crossfire it is really impressive we can say 2x4830=4850x2 so i think it is cool performance

I agree they have little in common. But not that this is a pre-5x00. This is more like a 4870 with lower SP's and a smaller manufacturing process.

lets get this cleared up.

the 4770 is nothing like any of the other current 4800 cards.

4770: 128-bit | RV740 | Fab 40nm | TDP 80 watts

4800: 256-bit | RV770 | Fab 55nm | TDP 110 watts (4830/4850) 150 watts (4870) 190 watts (4890)

with that said, the 4770 competes with both the 4830/4850 with alot less.
and dont bring in the gddr5 theory, because there is not a huge difference between the 4850 and the 4870 performance wise.

the fact that the 4770 can compete with atleast 25% less wattage and half the bus width of the 4800's should tell you something. also remember that it has less bandwidth, less than half of the bandwidth of the 4870.

so when you say its like a 4830 or a 4870, thats assinide.

how can you say the 4770 is simular when it has with half the bus size, half the power usage, half the bandwidth, on a different Fabrication, and have less transistors but still be close to the performance of a 4870.

put the 4770 on a 256-bit bus and im willing to bet it would spank the 4890 even with lower core clock and less SP's.

Umm i just realised that the prices of the 4770 vs 4830 is just $20 away. A store near me sells the 4830 for $159 and the 4770 for $179. Should i just get the 4770 and crossfire it with 4830? Since the 4770 is faster, it would just pace it speed with the 4830. Then next time i could buy the 5800series and sell 1 card while give the other to my brother. Also if a moderator could change the thread title to the new one i've replaced on my first post, thanks!

ah which begs the question would it be more prudent to use the 4830 for now and wait till the 5800's come out in july? or do you think the price/performance ratio will stay the same as 2x4770 or 2x4830?

So i should just wait for the 5800series to be out first? Cause i'll be switching to a 24inch monitor real soon. As an image lover, i love to crank settings to the max. However, it seems that 1920X1200 is also a real gpu killer. That's the reason for my crossfiring

I just raise'd core voltage from bios. And aftermarket cooler's on them also.
