I'm going to get an Alienware M11x.

The new revision of the M11x has a better processor and graphics card, but also comes with the nVidia Optimus technology which automatically switches between dedicated and integrated graphics. Does anyone have any experience with Optimus? I've heard it sometimes gives trouble in not correctly switching so often times you'll end up playing a next-gen 3D game with the integrated graphics, and there is no way to override this.

If this is the case, I am thinking of getting the previous revision of the M11x. It has a weaker video card, but it doesn't have Optimus, so the user actually has to manually change between dedicated/integrated and not rely on the computer to do so.

    Also, the difference

    New revision ---------- Old revision

    GT 540M --------------- GT 335M
    Core i5 2537M ---------- Core i3 330Um

Get the new one. I don't think Optimus problems are that common. And even if you were to face any, I believe you can do a manual switch from the NV control panel. Force the dedicated GPU to be used for certain applications.

Doesn't that laptop come with an LED indicator for when the dedicated GPU is used ? I've seen one with 2 LEDs for the IGP and the dgpu each.

    xbonez says thanks.

I'm not sure. I believe it does come with the LED.
