I believe that it could work, but not without messing with the memory settings first.

Pff that's clear as saying tomorrow is a new day.
I think I read or heard someone do it before, but that is probably something like the stories about an software update making an iphone waterproof.

Oh no doubt bud. They will be popping up left and right. Why people do this type of stuff is beyond me. I understand the whole enthusiast deal as i am one myself, but people that don't know what they are doing need to NOT FLASH THE BIOS ON THERE GPU'S especially with one that isn't for there card.

the main question is why you wanna flash new bios?
if you want overclock - go OC with msi afterburner/CCC
if you want save results - there is button to do it
just it's like a nonsense to me
probably you'll have more bugs/not stable work with wrong voltages/clocks
realy why you wanna do this?

If I've said this once, I've said it a million times. Flashing your BIOS with another card's is just asking for trouble. It's like flashing a motherboard with a BIOS from v.2 when you own v.1. You're just asking to brick it. Simply put, don't screw with your BIOS unless you know exactly what you're doing or if there is a problem.

It annoys the heck out of me when people flash their GPU BIOS' like they're changing a pair of shoes. It's insane because a bad outcome, which is more than likely, is going to cost you the card.

All in all, if you have to ask, you shouldn't even be considering flashing it in the first place IMHO, otherwise you simply like to live stupidly dangerously.

On the 290/290x and many other AMD cards actually it's very low risk, they come with dual BIOS so if it goes wrong it just a flick of a switch and your card is back to how it was.

I've not done to much looking yet but do the 390/390x just run more voltage to the memory compared to the 200 cards? This might be worth flashing for as there is no independent memory voltage control on them cards.

the tl;dr of any advice you get is..

Don't do it unless you like paperweights that look like graphics cards. Because that's what you'd be left with.

Seriously tho, why would you think this is a good idea?

The R9 200 series of cards have Dual BIOS, right? So, even if someone bricks one BIOS, he can always switch to the other one?

the architecture is the same, it's the same physical silicon with the same transistors.
some changes were made at the microcode, firmware, bios and driver level - all software

You'd be surprised how many people come whining after a bad flash not knowing about that little switch, and make a thread rather than searching.

That said, bios flashing is not inherently bad. Not doing your homework is.

They are the same hynix 8GB chips used in R9 290X's with 8GBs...

Any chance you are confusing Fiji = Fury X with R9 300 series = 200 series rebrands ?

Morons HAVE BRICKED THEIR CARD BY HAVING THE SWITCH IN THE WRONG POSITION the switch is not a fail safe guard unless its used right
