Every once in a while, the screen goes blank, then comes back a few seconds later with an NVIDIA message saying that the driver crashed and has now recovered. Also, going into sleep mode tends to crash the PC, so it hangs forever with a black screen and full power. Restarting it gives the Windows DOS-style recovery menu.

Note that I'm not particularly looking for help to troubleshoot it as I just can't be arsed right now with so many other things to be getting on with, although I don't mind suggestions or help for other people on this thread if their having problems too. It hasn't done this while running a game. Yet...

I suspect that a rollback to the previous one will fix it, or the next one will be more stable.

System specs are up to date if you wanna take a look.

Yep, I updated to 352.86, played some GTA:V and all was fine, then when I was just browsing the web monitor went black. It didn't recover though, but I could tell the computer was still running because my G510 LCD continued to update. Had to do a hard reboot.

screen goes black while trying to install drivers - Im still using them but their partially installed im guessing as i gave it 10mins before i hit the power down button and restarted - I get crash errors when opening up the geforce control panel sometimes which means that the driver package hasnt completely installed properly.

Ive checked in Nvidia forums and aparently its something to do with some settings that make the driver compatible with windows 10 thats causing the trouble.

I dunno anyway - but i did expect them to come out with an updated beta or a hotfix that solves the problem but no word from Nvidia so far. They are aware of the problems though. my games seem to run fine. most important thing for me is that witcher 3 runs in SLi.

Im starting to wish Nvidia did separate SLi profile and installer packages kinda like AMD did with their Catalyst (driver) and CAP (crossfire profiles) setup.

Let me decide when i want to update the driver but keep sli profiles rolling in so i can still make use of SLi on newer games until more optimised drivers for that particular game comes out.

I was getting multiple TDRs when using 352.86, particularly during working with softwares and gaming. I work as a photo editor for a living and use Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom on regular basis, but the driver often triggered display and driver reset when I was working using both software, preventing me from working comfortably. Google Chrome suffered from it too when I was browsing the internet but not as often as when I was working or gaming. Ironically I could not play The Witcher 3 without experiencing TDR every few minutes, despite the driver is advertised as The Witcher 3 ready one. TDR could occur several times in one hour of gaming or working session and even when system is in idle state.

I went back to 347.88 as it is stable for both working and gaming. Considering all the troubles I was getting, I believe I should have not update my display driver in the first place.

347.88 is extremely stable, but even moreso if you have a Kepler, as it was the last driver optimizing Kepler.

I'm using them for 970 and 780.

Ok, thanks for the feedback people. So it looks like there's something wrong with the driver as I'd suspected. :ohwell:

I'll roll back to the previous driver and see how it goes. I'm not running The Witcher 3 or GTA V where this driver may be important for proper operation, anyway.

I guess GeForce Experience isn't gonna like it and will insist on me "upgrading" to these faulty ones.

That's not quite true. If you want to use ShadowPlay you need it and I have done a couple of times. Also, it's dead handy for driver updates - just click yes when it offers the new driver. So lazy! :p

On point. I know several who feel the same.

I've looked far and wide for that info. Thanks:toast:

Isn't the news about 347.88 already dated information? As far as I heard, Nvidia was going to look into optimizations for newer titles for Kepler after the performance hit on Project Cars came about on pretty much every card that isn't Maxwell.

Also, I notice 352.86 did improve TW3 performance ever so slightly and GTA V runs a lot better on 350.12 than it does on 347.88... I did also have display driver errors on 347.88 but that may have been caused by other stuff as well, most notably GTA V.

All on a GTX 770, so yeah... Not sure what to believe anymore?

Nvidia only recently said they would fix the so called "mistake" on Kepler optimizations after347.88, and to my knowledge it hasn't been done yet. So, I still wouldn't call it old news.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
No issues here with a 960 (BF4, GTA 5, newest DiRT)...

I have to say, I only install the bare minimum on ALL drivers. driver + PhysX = done on NVIDIA. No GeeeeeeForce experience crap or anything else. AMD, same thing, drivers and CCC. No Gaaaaaaaming Evoloved crap.

I rarely have issues with my cards with that method. Then again I don't exactly play a slew of games so... maybe Im just under a rock, LOL!

Got a bizarre black screen on startup on Witcher 3 as of the newest set of drivers. Only happened once, and when ALT+F4'd it came up the age old "Display driver has recovered". Deleted some video options files in my game directory and forced an integrity check. After that I didn't have issues, so I assume a weird concoction of video settings was causing my crash.

Also, is this the first time PhysX has actually been updated? Usually after a new driver install it says it kept the old version as it's still in date. This time PhysX actually got replaced.

Also GeForce Experience seems to be a little slower to start up than usual.

This is my first display driver crash in almost 2 years!

Have
TDR, nearly, every 10 mins in Chrome.
Also, frequent freezes in Witcher 3.
Rollback to 350.12 driver. Any problem for 24h so far. And same good fps in Witcher 3.

No issues here with 352.86 for browsing (Firefox and ocassionally Chrome) and gaming (been playing The Witcher 3, DOTA 2, ETS 2, Grim Dawn).

And just like EarthDog, I only install bare minimum : main driver and PhysX driver.

TDRs, game crashes, and temporary freezes with games or browsers have been an issue with nvidia for longer than just this driver update. It's too bad games are so tied to specific driver updates now because it makes driver rollbacks unpractical.

I think the game specialization of drivers is overrated. I'm playing TW3 on 347.88 for both 780 & 970 without issue.
