So I picked up Grid auto sport over the weekend and promptly lost power due to the Hurricane. What little I did get to play was cool enough and runs exceptionally well at max settings but, I feel like it is lacking in that gritty feel like the previous releases. It appears almost cartoonish in its graphics delivery, and even thou at difficult settings the car handles somewhat better, It is just lacking in some area. I can't quite put my finger on it but was wondering if it gets better or has it been washed of all its glory?
    Thoughts?

Is that cartoonish to you ?!? (Titles that comes to mind are Cel Damage, F1 Race stars, Destruction Derby and the like...)

I think it has a lot more bloom and blur than the prior Grid 2. I haven't played Autosport, just Grid 2.

That isn't in game. I will try and post a shot of in game when I get home later tonight to see if I am crazy or not. I am also wondering if it feels like the career feels linear or if once you get through it a tad if it branches and or if the xp does anything other than allow moving on into other tiers. any upgrades were already there on the provided car and I was not able to choose what carto drive just what I was provided. After I smoked the Ravenwest team I was allowed to race on their team just to have to race a diff team in the following race. Were you not able to just grab a style of car and race in that class in Grid 2? Been awhile but I thought there was more choice. Time will tell I guess.

i just bought it and installed it. should start playing from tomorrow after the high texture pack is installed. got the black edition for 25USD
    :D

it does run well and lighting is quite improved from the gird 2 which is still play.

one thing a bit iffy might be the a bit too realistic mechanics of the game which has made the braking distances longer as opposed to f1 like before.

also traction is easy to loose if you are playing true without any stability assists and stuff like that. But its not that bad as to you cant control.

i just leave the ABS on(doh) and have gotten used to sliding it around quite a bit.

Game is almost impossibnle without analogue throttle and brakes though. as the stability controls makes the car significantly slower.

Did you play the other 2? Keep me posted on your thoughts please. I may fiddle with visuals tonight to see if I can draw out a more realistic feel.

That reminds me! I get the whole team mate angle and it is quite fun cheering them on and issuing commands to them but I have yet to find their purpose as of yet. Well except the Raven team mate who I raced the whole time. Was quite funny.

It's too bad more people don't. I've been having a lot of fun with GRID Autosport online when I can find lobbies to race in.

They kinda have one in G:A, but it is only for custom playlists. The stock playlists you just have to quick join.

I played for about 1.5 hrs before the lights went bye bye. No Zonda yet. The Konigzegg (?) was my favorite in the last game.

not to mention the server location is the same as your steam download location so i have to set mine to somewhere in europe to find a game.

I was hoping it really would redeem GRID 2's lack of pro circuit track racing as many anticipated, and had it just added that with a graphics makeover and kept GRID or even GRID 2 car handling, it might have. What we got instead however is an abomination.

This is a failed attempt at a more sim-like experience. There's too many rev killers, the AI are still driving like maniacs (and very ineptly in corners), they still weave back and forth wildly in front of you, and the coding is still shit. The frame rate is fine, but they've yet to fix the problem of pauses every now and then on the track. It's enough to take me severely off my line or even hit the wall sometimes. Yet I can run max settings at 1080p with 4xAA and average 70 FPS and Min 56 in their bench.

Another way it fails to be more realistic is open wheel is actually the easiest, most forgiving. discipline. After experiencing the handling in other disciplines I held off doing any open wheel events until I got familiar with it. To my surprise the cars were WAY easier to drive. I expected less understeer, that's understandable, but they also grip better and even handle the bumps from the cray AI well with less momentum loss. Other than that it is very boring. There's too many micro slices of tracks being used, often with very unimpressive cars.

I knew Codies was going south when they dumped a lot of time and money into their trash titles like Operation Flashpoint and DiRT Showdown, while ignoring GRID for years, but when they start ruining what used to be their signature titles, it's time to wait for Steam sales or pass altogether.

I'm REALLY getting sick of crap sequels. Both This and Sniper Elite III just make me want to play the previous titles. For me, the best in those series were GRID and Sniper Elite V2. CodeDisasters is one of many dev teams that have lost their focus and more importantly, their touch with their own fanbase.

And the replays, OMG the crap replays. They haven't come CLOSE to how good the replays look in GRID. I don't even bother recording or even watching replays anymore. You get a better feeling of speed and adrenaline in GRID than either of it's sequels, and not just during a race but in watching the replays as well.

I could go on, but I'm bored even talking about this game. It's one of those titles that I have to force myself to go back to because it feels like the same thing over and over.

Cant help but say it is worth a look for the career alone it's definitely different to drive and on hard its a challenge befitting your skills.
I always get taken out online and due to that haven't played much multiplayer on any of them but would enjoy a crash free game now and again.

I just tried playing with the settings some more after verifying via a Codies forum thread that others were getting freezes. It was suggested by them to set graphics to "Automatic". I set it to Automatic and all it did was use a High preset. I then ran the bench and got FAR worse results than on max settings. It hitched severely even in the bench at the start and end of it. I've never seen it do that before. I was getting only 15 FPS Min. On max settings I Ave 70 FPS and get 56 Min.

So I tried the Ultra preset and benched that. I had Ave 82 and Min 62 with no hitching in the bench or in game. I just played a fairly long session and was getting no pauses, freezes, hitching. Then the last race of the season I was on I again got severe hitching in some tricky turns. That kinda makes it look a memory leak issue, but the hitching right off the bat with Auto settings much lower than I use indicates it's worse than just that.
