So with the last few nVidia drivers they've added a very annoying System Tray icon that is there when the computer starts. I don't know why, but it bugs the crap out of me.

Now I can stop the "NVIDIA Display Driver Service" service and the icon goes away. Oddly, I can start the service right back up again and the icon doesn't come back.

Now for the mean time I just wrote a bat file that runs at startup to restart the service, which gets rid of the icon, but there has to be a better way. Perhaps some option burried somewhere in the nVidia control panel or something.:banghead:

How about open the icon, find "Desktop" tab, at top left, and uncheck "show notification tray icon"

Yeah, it is already unchecked, that is why I started the thread. Sorry, meant to mention that in the first post.:eek:

Edit: Just driver sweepered, re-installed drivers, and rebooted. The icon still popped up. I went into the control panel and it was still unchecked despite the icon being there. I check the option, unchecked it and the icon went away. I rebooted and no more icon. Odd, but I'm happy.

I'm not as bad as some, I can handle icons down there that actually serve a purpose. Like the icon for my UPS that controls the computer in case of a power outage and gives me health status of the UPS, or the RAID icon that tells me the status of my RAID array in my main machine and my business server. But icons that have no purpose at all, like the nVidia one, bug the crap out of me...:laugh:

You could play around with the registry and disable Nvidia tray from starting up with your Windows.

Just wanted to reply because I was seraching for solution and it was like 3rd option on Google. Finally found solution myself.
1. I have tried unchecking "Show Tray Icon" ... doesn't work
2. I have tried installing only "Display adapter drivers" and "Physics" (with clean install) ... doesn't work
What happens. When you deselect "Show Tray Icon" app sets REG "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\NvTray\StartOnLogin" to DWORD 0 ... but this doesn't work because there is no coresponding value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE". So to fix this you have to add REG

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\NvTray]
"StartOnLogin"=DWORD:00000000
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\NvTray]
"StartOnLogin"=DWORD:00000000

Is hiding the notification enough? Go into notifications in your Taskbar, find the one (s) that annoy you, and select do not show notifications.
