As we all know not all games have the option to change the monitors refresh rate & as i'm still using a crt i carnt be running games at the 60htz default ( Eye strain ).

On win XP this hasnt been a prob due to the fact theres a cupple of ways to lock the refresh rate in 3D apps either via the ATI ccc or via dxdiag

shown here:

Now since i've upgraded one of my rigs to win7 i carnt seem to be able to lock the refresh rate in 3D apps.

shown here:

My desktop on win7 runs at 75htz & games with the option to change refresh rate i also run at 75htz.

Crysis is one game that doesnt have a refresh rate option so now if i run this game on win7 its at 60hrtz & does my eyes in !

Shawly there must be a way to lock the refresh rate on win 7 ?

Or am i the only person thats bothered bout refresh rates

You can use "ReForce" but I heard it only works up to XP. Can you run it on 7 in XP mode or by setting compatibility mode to XP?

It's a little app that changes refresh rates in your monitor's EDID. You set how many HZ at which resolution you wanna run, then it forces 3D apps to work at those settings instead of what's written in their game cfgs.

You aren't the only one w/ CRTs. :) I also have to close FPS limit / VSYNC in many games coz of my monitor's high ref rates.

75 HZ = still headaches and eyestrain. Use 85 HZ at least. :)

you cant force refresh rates in DX10, which is another part to this pain in the ass.

AFAIK, if games dont have a refresh rate option you're basically screwed... run in a window or buy a 60Hz LCD screen :(

Yeah I heard that too. On my ATi setup it worked in OpenGL and DX 9. In my current Nvidia config, I can force it in DX 9 but it doesn't work on OpenGL :wtf: I dunno why...

running windowed sucks. I won't ever buy a TN panel again. I want a bigger monitor with higher res aswell. An 30 incher is my only option... only if I stop blowing my money on old server hardware like ethernet, SCSI stuff from EBAY then I'll be able to save 1000$ for that. :D

Just got round to trying this & it seems that reforce prog was only for adding custom refresh rates. There was another prog on the same site called refresh lock ( Seemed promissing ). But after testing this prog on win7 found it just comes up with a "file not found error" even in XP compatibility mode.

As Mussels said it seems there is no way of locking the refresh rate in win7

Never mind its not a big prob & its bout time i invested in LCD anyway
