Apple today announced the new iTunes for Mac and PC featuring a completely redesigned player, seamless integration with iCloud, and a stunning new look for the world's most popular online music, apps, TV and movie stores.

The new iTunes is coming in October and will feature a dramatically simpler and cleaner interface that keeps your favorite iTunes content at the forefront. With iCloud integration, your music, movie and TV purchases made on any of your iOS devices or computers is conveniently displayed in your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, available anytime you want them. The redesigned iTunes Store, App Store and iBookstore have been rethought to make buying your favorite content on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac or PC simpler than ever.

"We created iTunes because we love music and we're going back to our roots with an incredibly clean design that keeps your music at the forefront," said Eddy Cue, Apple's senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. "The new iTunes works seamlessly with iCloud, always keeping your entire library at your fingertips, and we’re adding great new features that make listening to your music more fun."

The redesigned iTunes features a full-window interface on your Mac or PC that's simpler and cleaner, always keeping your favorite content in front of you. The new library view makes it easier to view your music, TV shows and movies, allowing you to click on the category of content you want to browse and that's all you will see. The expandable album view allows you to see track listings for an individual album, while letting you continue to browse your music library. The new search feature searches across your entire iTunes library, including music, movies and TV shows. The re-imagined MiniPlayer makes it easy to control your music with a small tool bar, you can skip to the next song or search for something new to play—all without having to open your library. Up Next is a fun new way to see what songs are coming up and queue songs or albums you want to hear next.

With iCloud, all of your iTunes purchases are in the cloud and can be accessed from your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC or Apple TV. The new iTunes features seamless integration with iCloud, which automatically puts all of your purchases into your library on your Mac or PC, regardless of which device you used to make the purchase. iCloud also remembers where you are in your favorite movies or TV shows no matter which device you're viewing on.

The redesigned iTunes Store, App Store and iBookstore feature a clean design that makes shopping easier and more fun. Featured content is showcased right at the top and easy-to-browse shelves serve up popular music, movies and TV show choices. You also have a preview history that shows you all of the music, movies and TV shows you've sampled. iCloud keeps your preview history across all of your devices. Additionally, users can preview 90 second clips of songs while continuing to browse the store.

The new iTunes will be available in October as a free download at www.itunes.com.

I hate itunes, I never use it any more. I wonder if they fixed the redundant entries in the library fields? That was the worst thing about it IMO. Plus Itunes helper object or whatever the thing is that prevents the 64bit versions from closing. Bleh.

Yeah it's pretty "kitchen sink" and bloated these days. And was never a particularly great media player, anyway. It brought digital media to the masses though.

I also still remember the first Windows version. It was like "wow" even though made perfect sense to sell more iPods. Now such things are commonplace.

Can't say I've ever had such issues, and since my wife uses and iphone and ipod, we use Itunes exclusively.

Itunes will only fail to close properly when MSN messenger is running for me, with "show what you're listening to" enabled. ANd it doesn't really fail to close..it closes..and then restarts itself.

Redundant itles listings ahve always been library corruption, for me, and deleting the library files, adn then re-scanning music folders, always fixed things.

At least they are actually saving the stuff you buy in the cloud now. Used to be you were SOL if you bought a bunch of crap without backing up and your Seagate HDD from the late 2000s died in your Macbook (which happened to one of my high school teachers, and he was furious).

Hate thet "thing" Not much in life what I hate, iTunes really a fail .
    Why?
Its not a easy user friendly application.
    And Sync its huge fail.
If anyone can tell me how to make it work my shuffle as a normal mp3 player, I would thanks a lot for thet.

Well it's supposed to be "user-friendly" like all Apple shit but I feel as they keep adding *more* things it gets less reliable for all things. But it still should work/sync fine for simple actions like transferring music to a shuffle. Sound alike you might have some other issues going on but hard to say with so little information about your setup.

By "normal MP3 player" you mean one you can just drag and drop to? IDK with a shuffle...try Goggle.

This. My god its annoying. Having to close iTunes and then quickly close the process through task manager. Honestly, why hasn't this been fixed yet?

Yeah that's what it does... well that's what I thought theubersmurf meant as that's what happens for me.

Maybe this version will actually close when I press the X, and won't open every time I go into my itunes media

Bonjour is their network device discovery protocol. Just disable the service if you don't have a bunch of iStuff that needs to communicate....

I hope theres an option to disable from cloud integration, i dont want any software on my rigg what "updates libraries" into the cloud automatically, not because i have even one song/movie thats been downloaded from ptp, never been into that, its this creeping "integration" of software[think fbook] thats built in and non-removable/configurable i find creepy.

I'm a student and iCloud is the only reason I bought an iPad and a Macbook Air. If I lose or forget either device, or one gets stolen, I know I'll have my papers and notes on the other device. Sure it's a slight premium, but one saved grade and it pays for itself.

I only use iTunes for all of the radio.

That's what I use Google docs for.
