If I'm not mistaken the word "warning" doesn't mean everything is good with your HDD. If both drives are doing it, perhaps it is your chipset?

windows hanged when restarting. 80Gb one is the main drive.
also when restarting there is this bank screen with a rapidly blinking cursor for 10-15seconds before even the post begins with a beep.

Yea, the bios is probabily trying to recognize your drive. not a good sign. Spinrite may be able to retrieve some of your data or fix the problem, if u can get a hold of it.

Back up essential data asap. I've never heard of the northbridge causing the S.M.A.R.T to be read incorrectly. What does HD tune say now?

keep a backup, when a disk starts giving warnings of reallocated sectors, it usually means that it won't last much longer. It's running out of spare sectors to allocate in place of corrupt ones.

Switch to your green and return the drive. It's gonna fail sooner or later, everything i've read about these warnings point to that.

There are some decent HD programs out there that will allow you to back up your MBR + Primary partition and allow you to put them on your green. You might want to look into disabling the head parking function of the green tho, if it's an older drive.
