are AC power supplies (power bricks) supposed to make a hissing noise?

im quite suspicious of my NAS drive's AC powersupply brick which is a go between from the surge protector to the actual drive. (just like a laptop AC Power Supply Brick) when plugged in it makes a hissing noise, almost like something tiny is boiling inside. lol. i know it sounds weird but wtf?

you can only hear it if you put your ear close to it. but it definately sounds like a soft hissing noise as if a tiny egg is being fried in the inside. oh yea, and as soon as i unplug it the sounds stops.

like a cap may be leaking, or a transformer is messed up or even dust build up. It happens more often when the bricks are close to their limit (like a 100 watt rated brick running a comp that needs 100watts)

Is this prob new? if so pay attention to see if it gets worse (more noise, warmer to the touch), if it does replace it soon.

This may seem silly but have you tried plugging it into a different wall outlet?

look for one that has a bit more oomph to it.

PS: what NAS unit do you have and how many Hdds are u using?
