I had 2 4870s almost catch fire once. Both the same card each time after i accidently scraped a capacitor off it during an installation. Sparks and smoke everywhere. Even after i got her back from RMA old Bessy was never same again and like an idiot i made her do a test similar to furmark and she juat gave up the ghost not long after that.

I was a terribly cruel and unworthy master

I forgot to add, i RMA'd old Bessy for the second time. Sadly sapphire decided it was for the best and put her down. All i got back was Street value for the card which didn't come to very much.

Turned on computer, heard a 'pop', everything shut down. Power supply died. Replaced PSU, but the computer still wouldn't boot. After a bunch of trial and error with spare parts, I concluded that both the mobo and CPU were dead too. First time I've ever had something just die like that in 15 yrs (my roommate's gaming PC in the same room was totally fine though).

Fortunately, everything was under warranty except for the cheap motherboard. Intel shipped back a brand new i5 2500k, and Seasonic sent me a refurb replacement within a couple days... which also didn't work... they apologized and quickly sent back a working one.

Only other failures I've ever had were a couple memory modules, but those are easy to replace.

I have lost my ASUS DVD writer last week. Exact model: ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U F301.

Would I recommend it? No.

I have bought another, this time ASUS DRW-24F1ST for ~$20. I just hope it lasts more than 2 years, otherwise ASUS products will go to the end of my "TO BUY" list for anything.

Thank you!

I was working on a review when my wife came into the room, and I stopped typing to turn to her direction. Just as I did so, she walked by the PC, and there was a loud "snap", while the music I had playing continued, and then as both my wife and I looked at my PC on its stand, there was another "snap" and a bright light emitted from the PSU, as the smell of burnt electronics filled the air. I yanked out the cable to the wall for the power bar, and we both walked out the room, and left for the store to buy a new PSU.

It was obvious the Antec TPQ-1200OC had died. I literally shipped that PSU around the world once fully, going east. It had lived a good life.

LOL.

And it was a literal "guess you have to buy some stuff. Let's go." ROFL.

i had a Supermicro X8sti on a table, running, while i measured it for a case i was making.
My dog Jess knocked a metal ruler with her tail which slid under the board went BAADOING and twatted the bottom of the board.

Bye bye Supermicro, it was nice knowing you (for about 3 weeks).

I had a cheap power supply pop on me when my pc was off. I was casually watching TV in the evening when I heard a pop and saw some blue light emitting from the back of my desk. Seemed like it had enough of my overclocking adventures. It served me well... for a year.

To me, PC parts are objects that make my computer work. I have the same feelings about them as I do pencils, shoes, hats, umbrellas, aluminum cans, etc. I guess that's to say I have no feelings towards them.

I had a 9800Pro bios modded to a 9800XT
I had that thing overclocked to 512Mhz on the core and 425 on the ram it was blazing fast for its day
I ran it right into the ground one day it got so hot that the plastic retention pins gave out and the heat-sink fell off into the bottom of the case, instant smoke

I had an ASUS M5A97 R2.0 board die on me for no reason one day. It decided to fake it's first death with a black screen lockup, but death came swiftly as it died "again." I've hated that board and a distaste for ASUS ever since.

I also had an HP keyboard that the A button went funky and didn't work half the time, so I took it to school as my teacher had a competition of who could knock out the most keys in a single whack. I hold that title with all but 15 keys knocked.

I think my Triton headset is making it's way out at this very moment.

Sad thread is sad. I'll have to gather my thoughts on a story or two.

I'm not even mad. That's impressive.

My i7 950 and 7970 won't hold a stable OC with certain games, no matter how gently I prod them. I think they're feminists or lesbians.

I think they're getting scared though because every time I start thinking and talking about better gear, they remind me they can still hang in there and perform.

Just the same, by next year some time, if all goes well, they'll be relegated to back up hardware.
