Hell, I bought a Strix 970 for $250. The guy just didn't want to own 2 anymore, since he mostly plays BF4. *shrugs*

I brought my GTX 970 back to the store for false advertising, not because i'm dissatisfied with the performance.
Nvidia is not getting any profit from me with such behaviour. I'm not fanboy so good luck next time Nvidia...

I purchased 970's for SLI before this fiasco broke, I had lots of issues with stuttering and crashing at 1600p, so I sold them at a small loss and purchased a 980. The 980 has been rock solid, but I can say going forward, I will not be buying anything Nvidia for a long while as I am pissed at their nonchalant deceitfulness. I turn through lots of graphics cards through the 4 computers in my home for myself, my kids and HTPC. Just in this last couple generations I've had GTX 780, 780ti, 970's, 980, R9 290 and a 290X.

From a performance standpoint it does not matter, the card is still fast, affordable and better than any alternative.

NVIDIA has been lying to us and you about it, and that's not right from an ethical/company reputation standpoint, but whether that's worth it to you to compromise on gaming is up to you.

exactly!!

unless running multiple 970s (tri or quad) and/or an exotic resolution.
this spec change is moot. so why lose sleep over it.

only reason to not consider a 970 now is: due to this leak, 290x is that much more cheaper.

So i got my ASUS GTX 970 STRIX today (was orded before the 4 GB mess). My intension was to return it, but after playing
around with it, I have decided to keep it. I am impressed with its low power consumption and its queitness, and with my
1080 setup it will probably never show its ugly memory face.
I still think that Nvidia should not get away with it - had it been my car that had advertised 8 cylinders and then it turned
out that it only had 6 cylinders, they wouldnt had get away with it.......oh well......

Specifications never really mattered to me. It's all about real-world performance, so the GTX 970 is still a superb buy for the performance, power efficiency and the price.

Nvidia may have 'lied' but at the end of the day (which is playing games) it doesn't matter. If you base your PC purchases on company specifications, you're gonna have a bad time.

So you buy a V8 that cuts off 2 cylinders when not needed and they only work when you go over the legal limit, how are you going to tell, and does it matter if you will never use them?!

The gtx 970 is a good card. It provides good value right no unless AMD tops it with their 3xx series.

You are aware there are engines that cut back the amount of cylinders in use aren't you?

first, be nice.

second: its more like opening the hood and finding a 6 cylinder engine, with a 2 cylinder engine spinning a hamster wheel not actually connected to anything else.

waiting for something new from both teams :)
Same here, I don't care if it puts out the same FPS, I want power savings, 50% of previous consumption would be good.
If they can do it with everything else, why not GPU's!

Proves the idiots in this world. The same idiots who claim that Marketing is completely legit and spurs technological advance and there is no such thing as fraud. Fraud is Fraud no matter how you look at it, and you're just a complete imbecile if you think otherwise. Fraud is not complex, it's very simple.

Expanded example:
Customer: "Oh look a chair with 4 legs... nice Handcrafted Cherry Oak Wood Chair with 4 legs, oh and a close up photo of the manufactured date 1810. Hmm $1,387.00 is a bit high, but it's a really nice chair to add to the den or dinning room!"
**Cart, Purchase, Shipped, Received.**
**Opens package.. 3 legs! WTF! %^&(()#$**
**Calls Business CS and/or private individual the item was purchased from.**
Customer: "Hey, I purchased a product from you and it does not have 4 legs as advertised, it's also a different color. Now that I'm looking at the photo again.... it's like an entirely different chair than is in the photo and product description!"
Business CS; "Oh, the chair doesn't actually have 4 legs.. it's an advertised illusion that is does."
Business CS: "One moment please..."
Business CS: "We actually have 50 different types of chairs, new, used and broken. The photo just advertises that we have chairs to sell. You don't get to pick."
Customer: "Really? I selected a specific item and added it to the cart. I liked the chair I chosen, not this! It clearly displayed an Hand Crafted Cherry Oak Wood Chair and it also has four legs in the photo, within the description, and it even states all this info on the purchase receipt. I'm also reviewing your webpage of the product and it confirms all this! The item that I'm looking at is a plastic lawn chair with 3 legs!!!!"
Business CS: "We're deeply sorry and can understand your frustration, but you bought the product."
Customer: "It was stated to have 4 legs on the chair! It's not even what I purchased! Now, how am I suppose to use it?!"
Business CS: "Oh, that's not our problem... I'm sure you can think of an innovative way to make the chair usable!"
**Browsing business webpage for more contact info; Returns to product listing.... 404 page not found.**
Customer: "Hmm, that's interesting... I was just browsing the website for more contact information and just returned to the product listing for the item I purchased and the page is no longer there."
Business CS: "Yeah, I just spoke to the manager and they deleted the page."
Customer: "Pardon me?"
Business CS: "Oh, we checked and we don't actually have the chair your purchased and never had."
Customer: "Lol, you must be putting me on!"
**Refreshes web page. Photo and description of plastic lawn chair with 3 legs displays. !&*%^$&&%**
Customer: "Excuse me.. but I just refreshed the page where I purchased the Hand Crafted Oak Chair and now it displays a plastic chair with 3 legs! .... It also has the same exact product number!"
Business CS: "Okay, are you certain that it's the same product number listed on your receipt?"
Customer: "Yes! I was just on the page and displayed exactly what I had ordered... NOW it shows a plastic chair with 3 legs. It's the same product number!"
Business CS: "Hmmm, let me check with my manager.."
**10 minutes later**
Business CS: "Okay, my manager and I came to this conclusion. You're dumb."
Customer: "What?"
Business CS: "We never had that chair, we also never had a photo as you described... and you purchased a plastic chair. It shows on the page what you bought."
Customer: "That's not the point! You label and sell and item and clearly displayed an Cherry Oak, Hand Crafted Chair which has four legs in the photo as well description, then by FEDERAL LAW you are legally obligated to provide me EXACTLY what is listed and displayed! You cannot opt for something else, you are entirely obligated to refund the money or producet a product exactly as advertised."
Customer: "I also have the shipped receipt and email from your business with identical descriptions for the Oak chair."
Customer: "Yet you send me a plastic lawn chair with 3 legs and it doesn't even seem to have a broken leg... it's just NOT there!"
Business CS: "Again, we're sorry for your frustration. We do not accept returns or refunds."
Business CS: "Oh, obviously you created a fake receipt."
Customer: "lol, how can I create a fake receipt when it was shipped in the box... with your watermarks and as well the receipt in my email with your business information and email headers from your company?!"
Business CS: "Please hold..."
**23 minutes later**
Business CS: "My manager says they found logs that you hacked our server."
Customer: "You're mental."
Business CS: "Also, we're a business and don't have to follow Laws. It's not a rule, because you purchased our product and we make the rules... not the Government!"
Customer: "LMFAO... Really?! See you in court! Dumbass!"

quite a lengthy and completely incorrect analogy there. it'd be more like having one leg slightly shorter than the other, with an extension stuck onto it that just wasnt visible in the photos.

It's more like having 18 aisles to 18 tills and 17 till operators. The catch is operator number 17 has to jump between the 17th and 18th till.

All the tills bar the last one operate at full speed permanently, but occasionally when til 18 gets used, it slows down the speed of til 17 and 18. The other 16 tills aren't affected.

Although i thought that when the .5 was in use the other 17 tills would not be while till 18 is being used lol.

Yes, that's how I understood it, when operator number 17 jumps from 17th to 18th till, every other operator pauses to look wtf he is doing until he gets back to till 17. It does not slow them down much because he doesn't do it often and he doesn't spend much time at till 18 (he'll never do consecutive operations on till 18 without going back to his primary post on till 17)

I see your point, but Fraud is fraud and at least it use to be. Governments need to step up the penalties and observe it.

In today's age... you could sell a passenger plane with only one wing, when there ought to be two, and stable a duck to the other side and claim it's commercial airline ready to accept passengers and totally get away with it. Oh, let the insurance companies deal with it. That's not how it works!

Imagine being one of the people that voted 'Sure, the specs don't matter'!
Imagine being one of the people that went out and purchased the GTX 970 having known!

Thank God for those people . . . Speaking of which, any of those people willing to buy my old Pentium 2 machine that doesn't work for $50,000us ? If it makes you feel any better, ill market it as a new pc and tell you it's working :)

I'm quite tempted to pick up another 970 actually, AMD's offerings are ageing and far too juicy for my liking, equally everything Nvidia offers beyond that price point are crazy expensive.

Sorry, but I wouldn't change my 970 for a 290X, based on the sales of the 970 it seems most agree.
