it will worth a fraction of what they are asking about 3 seconds after its in your hands
no just no absurdity and completely pointless from a performance perspective

ASUS is apparently playing games by calling it a 290 it is indeed a 295X with a custom PCB and factory water-block hardly worth the 1499.99 asking price when you can get this

Heh, Newegg doesn't make it sound like a dual GPU. Now I see it :p
Here is a good pic to help you out:

Thanks for commenting multiple times only to now realize its a dual GPU card. Opinon noted :), and yes, it is $500 more than a reference 295X.

You don't have to explain to me what it is, I started the thread. From the point of having 2 gpus on a single card, yes its a 295X. Comparing it to a 295X however, you will clearly see that the two could not be more different.

But thanks for pointing that out! And check above YOU for the ARES picture.

If you take out the price factor, i.e. if money isn't an obstacle, it's a very well put together 295x2 card. If you can't afford it, so be it. This is a better engineered version of what is a universally accepted "good" product. It also looks very nice, which to some people is a deal maker.

It's just unfortunate that the 970 sli option is almost as fast at 4K resolution. But in fairness, in the UK, 2 x 970 with blocks equates to £700- £800. Okay, still a 4k monitor cheaper than an Ares III card....

Still, way freaking better than a Titan Z

Correct. Then in 6 months there will likely be something that is 2 x as fast as 970SLI and 2 x as fast as an ARES III for equal or less money, that is moores law! But, if money is not the obstacle and you plan on putting together a complete overkill system with the best of whats available at the time, this is a great nostalgia item to be had.

Its like looking for the best price on a Ferrari. If you are worried about how much the car is gonna cost then its not for you.

Unlike a Ferrari, these cards are worth close to nothing after a year or two.

And the difference between that and ANY other graphics card is...? Just wondering if there was any more to repeating this same comment to continue with, or if all things computer related depreciate over time was it?

Dp is universal, worked with a dp to vga adapter.

Well they were focused on making it a single slot but I agree with you because I would rather have the better design choice (FOR OUTPUT ONLY) of the 295X2/7990/6990 with having a bunch of mini-DP ports to make the choices I want. I think that is the best design personally with the only recent design I dig just as well is the GTX 980 reference having 3 DP ports. That is some seriously great design choices in my book.

But the Ares itself is more of a badge of honor to own. I have a friend on BF3/4 who used to own 2 of the Asus Mars II cards and he never stopped talking about how fantastic those two ran. Sadly circumstances required a coffin and burial ceremony that made the whole experience scar him for life as apparently the cards were to much for the world to let him have for very long.

Doesn't matter. Ferrari isn't worth the money they sell for. Its all about status and having "THE BEST" money can buy. A Toyota Yaris can go the speed limit as well as any Ferrari.

People buy 980's to play at 1080p because that's the best they can afford. Do they need a 980 to play todays games at 1080p? Nope. Its about status and having the best you can buy. I run two 670's and a 2600K and I play everything at the same level as most people with a 980 at a fraction of the price. Seriously if this card is to much for you, it doesn't mean its over priced. It means its not for you.

They did something similar with gtx580 chips. They called it a mars 580 not a 590 @OneMoar.

its marketing hype and its not the "best" nor the "Ferrari" of GPU's in its price bracket at most its a "Porsche"
a 295 with a bundled water block isn't a status item its a marketing trick used against people that don't know any better or have more money then brains either way bad deal is bad
about the only thing that could matter is if these cards clock SIGNIFICANTLY higher then a normal 295 witch I doubt ...

If put with a proper radiator and other watercooling components I am sure it would clock a lot better because it would not be limited by heat. Now a custom watercooled 295x is another question. It is a better built card but that doesn't always mean better overclockability.

Funny thing about this card is that the custom ASUS VRM is not much more powerful than the stock one so really with the ASUS card you pay for the single slot form factor, binned cores and ROG brand. The ROG Mars II on the other had was the only proper GTX 590 because the VRM wasn't going to blow up the moment you adjusted the voltage above 1V.

I took one look at the VRM and said the same thing lol

if a extra ~600.00 is worth the name/branding then more power to you you are still a fool for buying it tho ..
