Asus 9600XT BIOS upgrade question

I went to the following page

http://www.techpowerup.com/bios/

and found two bios versions for my graphics card:

a) Asus 9600 XT 128 MB | 500 / 300 | Samsung 2.8
b) Asus 9600 XT 128 MB | 500 / 300 | Samsung 3.3

Which one is better? My card has b) but if a) is better, can I just flash to a)? I have taken a backup of my existing BIOS using flashrom. If I flash to a) what will be the implications of doing so?

Thanks in advance...

Check you card's memory. a) is for Samsung 2.8ns memory & might cause problems when flashed in a Samsung 3.3ns board or vice versa for b).

Is there a way to do this without removing the card (ie use s/w to examine whether it is 3.3 or 2.8)?

*Edit*: Never mind. I checked the card (I found a really good article on the net) and my Samsung chips are the 3.3ns ones. :( Actually, most of the Asus 9600XTs are equiped with 3.3ns chips hence the poor overclocking results in terms of memory overclocking.

wtf?!

Ummm... something is definately wrong with those stock BIOS's for the Asus Card.

I have the ASUS 9600XT and it came stock 600/400 Mhz ... what's with this 500/300 Mhz crap?

I think your misunderstanding the numbers a bit
9600XT clocks are 500 Core and 300 Memory(which =600) as it is DDR(double density Ram)

Agree. 600/400 (which would be 600 core 800 mem) is beyond the capability of RV360 and the memory chips would have to be 2.5ns to do the 400(800) with stability. Most XT's have either 2.8ns chips or 3.3ns

Well the core clock is never a doubled number it is what it is but Memory clocks will generally show up as the single speed e.g 300mhz which you always have to double to get the "Real" speed (600Mhz). IF redphive your core IS 400Mhz is terrible underclocked as it SHOULD be 500
