I have an Asus r9290 dc2, not the OC version. I had a problem attempting to edit the BIOS and I lost the original BIOS and now the card will not work. I thought I had it backed up but I was wrong. This specific BIOS is not in the database and I cannot find it anywhere online. Asus support website only offers their automated BIOS updater which does nothing to fix my card (it just says in broken english that my card no need update BIOS). If anyone has a copy of this BIOS that you could upload or point me to that WOULD BE A LIFESAVER.

To specify the card is not the oc version. It is the regular version. If anyone has a copy of this BIOS or knows where to get it, or how to extract it from the updater application that would be excellent. Thanks to anyone who reads and tries.

Easy fix! Buy a second card exactly like it, backup the BIOS from the working card, swap to dead card, flash BIOS, then hook up both in CrossFire. Fixed card and twice the performance!

Joking aside, if you're comfortable with BIOS editing, you may be able to take one of the OC version BIOSes and edit that BIOS down to stock speeds (and volts too probably).
To confirm compatibility, check to see if anyone has successfully flashed your card to a different BIOS. If they can, you could probably use it as a base image to modify down to something more suited for your card.

It looks like the r9290s require a digital signature for the BIOS. The buying a second card is actually a good idea. These appear to be suer rare however (the not OCed version). I accidentally happened on this one when newegg mislabeled an open box one as the OC version and now I'm stuck with it. If I can find another one I might just pick it up, that is if I can find one.

That doesn't sound too good about the signed BIOS bit. If all else fails, I wouldn't be surprised if it sold well on eBay. Put it as parts/not working and say something like "I flashed the BIOS and now it doesn't boot. Can't fix it myself." People go kind of nuts if they think they can repair it.

Also, welcome to the forums! :toast:

xvi are you trolling ? or just being a tard today ?
the bios is here
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9290DC24GD5/HelpDesk_Download/
if the winflash won't recognise the card you can extract the file with uni-extract and force aflash via boot-able usb
make sure you match the correct part number to the .rom you need to use the exact part number is on the back of the card or the box

So I actually
here I extracted it for you
https://mega.co.nz/#!hlZViKTQ!TjdvnB09JXnBmMACtE3M55RRjnyopFZmxGI7DaRiHpQ
try win-flash while booted from the IGPu if that doesn't work you may need to create a freedos/atiflash usbkey
Thanks so much for this. I actually got this far by downloading the file from the Asus website and unpacking it with 7-zip. I can't find a model number that matches any of the rom files from the package however. They have very similar names. I am also now having trouble getting my computer to post with both of my graphics cards installed. It seems to start randomly.

I don't have an igpu so I am having to hope for the best.

open the .rom with RBE to confirm the 101 and 110 at the end just indicate version
I recommend using rufus for create a bootable usb key
https://rufus.akeo.ie/
select freedos under the create boot-able disk dropdown

It does have a BIOS switch but for switching between "quiet mode" and "performance mode". I got the pc to post when I flipped the switch.
then you are fine flip the switch to the 'boot-able postion'
once its though post and sitting at the dos prompt flip the switch back and flash the bios
reboot and see if it posts else flip Z switch and try again
just don't flash over your working bios
*theoretically this should also work in windows but to be safe do it from freedos with atiflash

Got a good DOS utility you like for the USB stick creation?

https://rufus.akeo.ie/
select freedos from the create boot-able disk dropdown
also run atiflash -i before doing anything to ensure you select the correct card/rom
then its simply atiflash -p0 filename.rom
if need be replace '0' with the correct id given by atiflash -i
as I said before make sure you don't accidentally flash your know good bios
1. flip the switch to the working bios
2. boot from usb wait for the command prompt to finish loading
3.flip the switch back over to the 'dead' bios
4. run atiflash -i to confirm that its ready for flashing
5. atiflash -p0 filename.rom (replace '0' with the correct id if need be)
edit: if you boot into windows and run gpu-z while on the secondary bios it should give you the correct model string to id EXACTLY what image you need to flash

113-AD63300-110 should be the 290 oc
113-AD63100-110 should be the non oc

Perhaps off topic :fear:but OneMoar you seem the guy to know :D . I just unboxed and installed new sealed Asus R9 290X DCUII it seems to have 1 bios as OC and other as non OC, the card is a non OC 290X.

So can you tell me pairings for these 2, cheers.

113-AD2900-103 bios switch in default (rear of card, has OC GPU/RAM 1050MHz/5400MHz)
113-AD2700-103 bios switch towards I/O ports (front of card, has GPU/RAM 1000MHz/5000MHz)

If download non OC and OC bios updates from Asus support site when run on each switch position I get bios versions:-

113-AD2900-105 bios switch in default (rear of card, has OC GPU/RAM 1050MHz/5400MHz)
113-AD2700-104 bios switch towards I/O ports (front of card, has GPU/RAM 1000MHz/5000MHz)

Cheers!

Sorry confused by check GPU-Z? that is where I'm getting information what bios is per switch position.

Below screenie when card straight out of box installed, with default switch position towards PCI-E power plugs.

This with switch towards I/O ports.

If I click Lookup in GPU-Z default position takes me to Asus R9 290X DCII OC edition page on TPU.
If I click Lookup in GPU-Z I/O port position takes me to Asus R9 290X DCII STD edition page on TPU.

I was hoping to flash a bios pairing out of the updated bios off Asus site but don't know which one out of them. I have extracted the EXE downloaded so can see list of bioses but don't know which is quiet / performance.

Here is listings from the EXE's download from Asus support site.

113-ad2700-103 is the non overclocked image
113-ad2900-103 is the overclocked image
I believe the 103,104,200,304 ect ect are the version numbers higher is newer
the difference in clock speed are most likely stability related if you aren't having problems don't update or if you do only update one of them so you can recover in case of failure never flash both at the same time

I agree about version numbers and what the images are but I think I have posed my question wrong.

This is a non OC 290X, out of the box it should have one bios which is called "quiet bios" ie fan profile is lower cooling / fan rpm duty cycle limited, with 1000MHz GPU 5000MHz RAM. The other profile should be also 1000MHz GPU 5000MHz RAM but with not limited rpm duty cycle profile ie the uber / performance bios. This is what is highlighted in all reviews of 290X and the Asus DCUII.

Instead I think I have both uber (performance) bioses , one is 1000MHz 5000MHz and other 1050MHz GPU and 5400MHz RAM and both are not fan rpm duty cycle limited.

Perhaps I need to contact Asus Support, but I think they are going to think I have flashed OC bios when I have not.

If at any point I have to RMA card it will look bad on me or possibly invalidate warranty as they will assume I used wrong bios.

I thought I could correct bioses by using the Asus updates but don't know which is the quiet bios.

I downloaded the bios update for a non OC 290X from Asus site when do update with switch at uber / performance it states no update needed, when have switch at quiet position it update bios.

Then I download the OC 290X bios update from Asus site when do update with switch at uber / performance it does a update but when have switch at quiet position it it states no update needed.

This is happening because out of the factory my card has come out with wrong bioses.

It does not have quiet & uber version of 290X non OC bios.

It has uber version of 290X non OC bios plus uber version of 290X OC bios.

When set to uber version of 290X OC it black screens, my biggest concern is without having the right pairing of bioses on RMA claim if ever needed maybe refused.

Thanks, I know I can do that :) .

If I do not have right pairing of bios on card ie non OC quiet / uber and need to RMA card it will look bad on me and perhaps invalidate warranty.
