Hello All,

I am a current member, just unable to log into my account! Previous account was Blixx1981.

Here goes my issue! I decided to re-install Windows on my larger SSD.
Before I wiped Windows, the install was running fine, hindsight I should have just left it alone.
After installing the latest drivers (amd-catalyst-omega-14.12-with-dotnet45-win7-64bit) my video craps out, the screen goes black.
No Windows Updates are installed at this point, I always install hardware drivers before updating Windows.
Sames results if I wait to install the drivers till after Windows Updates.
If I install the GFX drivers through Device Mangler, I get the same results.
The computer is still on, even shows HD activity, but when pressing the power button to shut off the PC nicely, there is no response, I have to reset it.
If I don't install the drivers the PC stays running, albeit Windows Experience Index has a rating of 1.0 due to no GFX drivers installed.
I even went as far as to install the drivers that shipped with the card (13.25), screen still goes black.

For giggles, I updated the MoBo Bios as well as the Card's Bios, same results.
http://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9290DC2OC4GD5/HelpDesk_Download/
OS > Windows 7 64bit < 2014/06/13 update

I read it's possible it could be the power supply, I swapped out the video card with my HD6850.
The system runs fine with the 6850, no issues.

While booted up with the 6850, I downloaded GPU-Z, enabled logging and set to update every second.
Captured logs for the sake of it.
I then swapped out the card for the R9290 OC, started GPU-Z, Re-ran the Windows Experience Assessment.
The PC stayed up when the Assessment was completed, still running GPU-Z I opened up chrome, and bang black screen again.

I had no issues with the previous Windows installation, even with the omega drivers. I made no changes to the PC internally nor made any changes to Bios prior to the new install.

Cooling is not an issue, there's no way the card could have hit temp.

CPU Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181032

3 of the fans pulling in on the front of the case, 1 blowing out on the rear, and the other 2 and connected to the H100i (2x2 fans with a push / pull configuration.) blowing out of the top of the case.

Attached is the GPU-Z log file, can anyone who knows what to look for check it out and let me know if there is ANYTHING I can do to fix it, or should I contact Asus for an RMA? 1st part of the log is the 6850, the 2nd is the R9290. I really don't want to lose this card as I got it when it first came out and paid $600 for it.

I did not get black screen from them how ever i have had it and required the PCI-e to be cleaned \ reseated, i have a friend who had it with all new display drivers to and solved in some of odd way.

Here's what he said
I had an idea today when I was at work.....imagine that...lol. I was checking on the network from work and I decided to try and beat the Black Screen when installing the newest driver by installing it from Remote Desktop and it worked like a charm. I am totally updated now. So if anyone knows someone having problems installing AMD drivers because of Black Screen during the install tell the to remote into their desktop to do the install then when they restart the computer they can log in normally.

Well I put the R9290 back in and attempted to RDP when the screen went black, no dice. I did however run GPU-Z again.
After I put the 6850 back in, I looked at the new GPU-Z logs.
My thoughts are its an issue with how the card is changing the Core and Memory depending on the load on the GPU.
GPU Core Clock 1000MHz / GPU Memory Clock 150MHz......
I also found forum posts all over the net after changing my google search terms.
After typing in R9290 Black screen instead of Omega Drivers Black Screen, far more results were returned.
Looks like AMD is slacking hardcore is resolving this issue.
I'm surprised my card lasted this long, I bought the damn thing in Feb of this year, people were having this issue then!

Time to RMA i suppose.

This post isn't to help but it's mildly pedantic. The title blames the Omega drivers but you admit it was the windows instal that messed things up as the omega drivers worked previously. We get a lot of fights on here about AMD drivers and it'd be good if you could ask a mod to change your title (if you can't) to say something about the card being unresponsive after OS instal.

I'm just wondering if there are any windows issues with the drivers. Is it a pain to re-instal the old win OS, see if that works?

The black screens are somewhat common problem though. I had to go all the way back to 14.4 to have at least half usable PC :(

well i have a ASUS R9 290 reference under a Kryografics waterblock clocked 1150/1500 and omega work like a charm for me too, the only issue so far i had was user fault (attempted VSR on a screen not meant to.)

No dice, still black screens. I'm floored by the fact I'm just now having this issue.
then the issue does not lie in Omega driver as you state but maybe with your card

so far never got a black screen issue and my card is a 2nd hand @ 190$ +the waterblock setup price the previous user got 3 of them for mining but sold 1 one week after noticing 2 were enough for his purpose so you can say i have a ex-miner card, which would be more prone to issues than a BNIB card, i think the previous owner was a cautious miner and didn't stressed too much the cards he had.

The old OS was the same windows 7, I just re-installed it, the Title was chosen as I assumed the fresh install of the omega drivers is what caused the issues I am having.

The only drivers I got to work without black screens where the omegas. I tried a few different drivers with no luck and even rma'd the card. They found no issues with it. So when the omegas came out I gave them a try and also use afterburner to control the fan curve. Been working fine.

I think I'll give that a shot, the memory core / timings keep going nuts.

The black screens are somewhat common problem though. I had to go all the way back to 14.4 to have at least half usable PC :(
Yeah I agree and is why I did an RMA... that fixed the issue with BS issues

The Omega's fixed my major black screen issue but I still had the screen flicker off then back on every so often. So I was digging the some boxes the other day and found a spare HDMI cable. I said what the hell and tried it and that screen flickering went away. So a bad cable was the last part of my issue.

My concern over the black screen issue is that it can be a multitude of things :

BIOS version
Memory speed
Memory manufacturer
Voltages
Drivers
Monitor/display connection(e.g. displayport)

As happy as I have been with my R9 290s, this is one set of products AMD needs to learn from moving forward. They can't let this happen again.

I have not been able to RMA the card as of yet, I am unemployed and can't afford to pay to send it to ASUS. The issue is still occurring.

So it looks like I got it working...... I did not install the ACP Application when I installed the drivers. The card wigged out after rebooting, had to reset via reset button, booted windows, no issues since! I did some digging, looks like the ACP is AMD's version of TDP. So without it, it's working!

I had a black screen with my Gigabyte R7 260x Windforce.
Solved it by changing the cable- connection to the powersupply.
First i had a power cable where i put a hdd and the graphicscard.
Now i use a extra lane just for my graphicscard and had no issue since a year or so.
