An exciting new approach to PC entertainment on show at CeBIT 2011. WAVI Xtion (pronounced “way-vee action”) comprises two components— the WAVI wireless media streaming device, and the Xtion motion sensor. It streams high definition media wirelessly from a PC located in one room toa TV in another, while infrared gesture-based multimedia playback, games and applications introduce the first ever officially-supported motion-sensing PC interface.

WAVI Xtion integrates motion-sensing technology from PrimeSense with the exclusive ASUS Xtion Portal user interface to bring consumers closer to technology through intuitive interaction with applications. Connections to both PCs and TVs via wireless HDMI(WHDI technology) deliver smooth transfers of high definition content such as movies, games and photos in 5GHz with a range of up to 25 meters.

Software products available on launch include MayaFit Cardio Lite, a motion-sensing fitness training game and BeatBooster, a multiplayer racing adventure game where users maneuver jet aircraft with their body movements. Enjoying PC games on the living room big screen TV is possible; the proprietary Xtion engine supports the remapping of keyboard controls into motion gestures for a variety of popular third party games.

Speaking on cooperation with ASUS when developing WAVI Xtion motion-sensing technology, PrimeSense CEO Inon Beracha said:

“Our collaboration with ASUS in providing a 3D sensing solution for WAVI Xtion proves to the industry that natural interaction technology is the ideal fit for living rooms, and that intuitive, gesture-based control will be the go-to route for operating all devices. We believe that PrimeSensesolutions like the user interface used on ASUS’ WAVI Xtion represent the future of the way people interact with consumer electronics, and help break down barriersof use to allow people to sync with the electronic world around them.”

    Online store offers diverse choice
WAVI Xtion enables a wide selection of multimedia content and entertainment applications, working seamlessly with the ASUS @vibe online store* to deliver music, games and apps, all through the cloud.

    Xtion Pro developer kit
Developers interested in creating gesture-based PC entertainment content can make use of the ASUS Xtion PRO developer pack, the world’s first professional PC motion-sensing toolset. It opens up new opportunities for cost and time-efficient development of various applications, including games of every genre. ASUS plans to launch the Xtion Pro Developer Challenge in March, with attractive prizes and publishing deals for winning developers. Selected apps will be placed on the ASUS @vibe online store*.

So I hope that these motion-sensing thingys are going to be compatible with all games that support them. I don't want to buy two different ones for different games.

Great. And good for ASUS getting this out before MS gets their act together with Kinect for PC. What is it with these overly big, overly bureaucratic organisations that might innovate but can't get their products out to market.

This raises the bar for HTPCs. They need to be an order of magnitude more powerful now that they might become console replacement so we can enjoy PC quality gaming in our living rooms.

Nice product, but Asus should hire someone who either has no illusion about having humor skills, or actually has humor skills.

    "Wavey action", barf.

"Hey, you wanna come over tonight and play with the wavey action?":wtf:

    Price?

If it's more than the Kinect sensor, fail. If it's JUST less, fail. If it's a nice bit cheaper, pure win.

Doesn't matter who makes it, there will always be people like me...the ones too lazy to get up and dance around their machines to make a game play. Lemmie know when holodeck tech becomes a reality and hologram wives are cheap and effective! :D

Course ya know that always made me wonder how one would goto the bathroom in a holodeck. But then again, people in the 24th century never pee.

Apple fan boys or not, we can all agree one of the MAIN reasons apple is so successful is that they bring to market what they say they will bring, and when. They are masters of "results"... now if they would only come out with a product I would buy :(

Off topic, I know; I just really liked Bonkers' line.

That's mainly because they just say "there will be an iPad 2".
Thing is, you need a kickoff product (iPhone in this case) to start enough madness that everyone in the world follows such meager product presentations.

Nice..., so PCs will make us sweat. Though, more recommended for home users than office users. Might end up slapping co-workers :slap: .

    Here's a Video from CEBIT 2011.

The guy in 7mm's video said they don't know if they will be cross-compatible. That would really suck if they weren't.

this isnt connect, not the same thing.

asus just released its own motion/audio based controller for people to use on their HTPC's/media PC etc.

The other part to this is the wifi component - it streams the HDMI video wirelessly, so you can remote control the PC in your room for media playback in the lounge, etc.

Unless there's a big camera-enabled PC game market right around the corner, I don't see much use for this. I for one certainly don't have enough room to dance around in front of my computer.

Speaking of the Kinect, is anyone else thinking that it would be super-easy to point the camera at a video of someone else playing the game? Super-easy achievements get.

They just teleport it out of your bladder.

pooping wouldnt be needed with teleportation tech. seriously.

they could just reassemble it as food, and sell it to the klingons or something.
