depends some boards need both or they won't post
all depends on how the phases are wired if they are all on the same rail and both connectors feed into that rail then its never a issue
if you have a board that uses two input rails one for each set of regs then it could be a issue
not the case on the III Extreme serie. (and as far as i recall it ... i never seen a mobo that was like that ... )
technically luckily the answer was given on the 1st post... the only thing i wasn't sure is "if it was described in the user manual", on the other hand i was 100% sure only 1 was needed unless heavy OC.
I have a Rampage III Extreme also- you only need to connect a single 8 pin unless you're going for an extreme overclock.
Running it with a single 8pin on a Corsair TX650 atm but don't remember which one it's plugged into?
yep a confirmation yay for RIIIE owner! (even if i am a ex owner and, damn, i miss that one ... )
I think easy way, and faster would be read manual, sometimes iam looking forum and surprised who lazy peoples are here
here is link for you'r answer
http://www.asus.com/support/FAQ/108933/
not really lazy ... if i knew he didn't had the manual i would have uploaded the pdf of it ... most of the time i buy my stuff 2nd hand and get only the hardware and no software or paper with it.
also yep searching yourself doesn't hurt either.
tho that answer is weird (to not say missleading)? the EPS12v is usefull for tri CFX/SLI??? i thought it was for CPU power supplying and the extra Molex 4P (EZ-Plug) you find in the middle and/or bottom of the board was for that ....
(the question mention it but not the answer
)
and the EATX12V connector is the 20/24pin the 4/8pin is, iirc, EPS12V
