Can I ask why you want a 4GB GTX 960 in the first place? There are much better options out there.

As far as anyone knows, it's a fully inclusive 4GB. It's a 128-bit card, there is no need for it to be castrated further.

It has no such issue, it just uses four 1GB memory chips instead of four 512MB one.

290 is out of mu budget.. here in india the strix 960 costs 18900 thats my budget.. but i was really scared of the vram issue...

the old thread specified right at the beginning : no need for a 4gb 960 tho ... so why bother? save money and take a 2gb .... or go for a 290 4gb (or 390 8gb ) which are, unless you need CUDA(or any of their proprietary tech) kinda competitive (situational ... ie: for me the 290/390 prices are ultra close to the 960 )

little question since you didn't fill your system specs: screen size and resolution? (well resolution is enough) because if 1080p even a 2gb 960 will be enough (tho ... albeit overkill my 290 does the jobs too)

Dont even bother with the 4gb version of the 960, it is absolutely worthless.

i was not recommending you a 290 but just telling you that even with 2gb a 960 is enough for 1080p

but if you want imperatively a 4gb card ... a 290 is more suited for it.
i don't see why you are scared by the vRAM issue .. tho ... if you buy a 960 (unlike a 970) well you shouldn't have to worry, because you will not run heavy game on it

^ that also, but you are on a budget and want a 4gb 960, check AMD offering maybe ... not only the 290 but the 280 or even the 270 (and X variante ) or 3XX serie of the same line ... (4gb or not )

ANOTHER question (since you didn't answered the 1st i asked) the game you intend to play? (and the screen resolution, which was the first question.)

the 960 card is going to run out of GPU grunt before memory capacity becomes a problem. Why are people so stupid they don't seem to comprohend this fact.

i play on 768p but still gta 5 in this resolution with msaa uses more than 2 gig.. watch at ultra textures uses 3 gigs and i may crossfire thats why i am getting 960,, two 960s are much like a 980 after a year 960 will be lot cheap so il get another any maybe sli.. thats why i was tensea about wheather this too has 3.5 gig vram issue or not.. and here the 280s have stopped... and 380s are much overpriced

You have your answers, you can now stop making new threads and hounding the vram "issue."

If you're so bound on 4GB then find some second-hand GTX680 with 4GB vram that's cheaper than a 960.

Also unless you show proof that it uses more than 2GB of vram on 1280x768, I'm going to assume you're lying.

Watchdogs is unoptimized game.
960 doesnt realy have the power to use 4GB RAM anyway, so even if there was this 3.5 GB issue, you wouldnt have anything to worry about.

I'm playing GTA V on high/very high and my GTX770M 3GB is using about 2600MB and I'm getting 40~60fps,
I would pick the GTX960 4GB anytime if I was building a pc.

If he would run GTA V with the same settings I use, with a 2GB card he would get some pretty bad stuttering as the textures will be constantly getting swapped between the system RAM and VRAM.
