Bah, I have no fan control or overclocking ability for my 2nd 5850 with any version of Afterburner. I rekon it has something to do with 10.1 drivers.

This is what I get for now.

one thing, 5970, you don't need to overclock it, AMD will release drivers when the time is right but right now there is no need.

If you are running windows 7 there's no need to have anything hooked to the nvidia card. Also if it doesn't appear to want to work simply uninstall ONLY the PhysX software and reinstall and it should work just dandy.

Jeremy

P.S. I had it working on the old drivers fine with no hack, only I couldn't access the Nvidia control panel. Now I can with the hack and new drivers.

This is not correct. I have Windows 7, and I took the second monitor off my main PC and hooked it up to my HTPC. The Nvidia control panel no longer opens even thought I still have the DVI to D-sub adapter hooked up to it.

Yes sir, now that I have the hack. Before I couldn't, it'd throw me an error however It would still work. I am running Windows 7 BETA, maybe that's why?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but can't physx be offloaded to the CPU? I'm sure a dedicated processor is faster, but in a game how much faster are we talking?

physics but not physx.

physx is nvidia's proprietary tech that adds little bits of pretty to games. floating leaves, semi-realistic objects that get knocked over, rolled around, etc. like the havok engine does for HL:2

games COULD code that in without using physx(HL:2), but for one reason or another ($$, physx is updated to be more efficient, more often) they stick with Nvidia for the time being. hopefully DX11 will change that.

Nvidia messed up the when they deliberatly disabled PhysX when ATI was present. All thanks to that stupid Nvidia move, there PhysX will become no more once ATI gets the real Havok Physics up and running for all games starting with DX11.

Yes, I've seen PhysX before. That's nice and all, but it doesn't answer my question or more accurately disprove my statement. With DX11 PhysX is dead. My point really was there's not too much on that list and don't expect much of anything new. Nvidia has DX11 cards coming soon.

Physx isn't dead with DX11. The physic implementation in DX11 doesn't have the premade interfaces and development environments the Physx already has available. Physx, Havok and DX11 can, and likely will go on, having their own engines available.

No but really. Who is she?

I really hope not. Something needs to be standardized already.

Not really. Not with physics in games, anyway. There countless out there. Some houses, like Crytek, even code their own. All we need is a standard to access the hardware, and direct compute is a step in the right direction. Don't need a standard physics tho.

Bah, I have no fan control or overclocking ability for my 2nd 5850 with any version of Afterburner. I rekon it has something to do with 10.1 drivers.

This is what I get for now.

http://i403.photobucket.com/albums/pp112/erocker414/vantagephysx.jpg

Hey man, unfortunately overclocking safely in crossfire mode while using the physX hack is not possible (yet)

I too found that my second 5850 couldn't be overclocked/ fan controlled. so i went to the afterburner discussion thread on guru3d and the creator of afterburner was saying how the physX hack seriously messes with the ATI drivers crossfire API - he said it simply is not possible to control the second ati cards fan once the physX hack is applied.

Possibly if AMD/ATI do some work to their drivers it may be possible in the future but for now if you want dual ati gpus to be overclocked while using the hack, you need the 5970.

If anyone finds a way around this, please let us know because its frustrating as hell.

I did. Unfortunately, it's watercooling.
