    According to NGOHQ.com, ATI has made a very cool decision which will affect their video card cooling. They have chosen to stop adding their stock coolers to some of their regular shipments to AIB partners. They will still provide them if video card makers choose to use them, but default shipments will not contain coolers. ATI will possibly be able to sell the cards at a lower price to AIB’s, which is good for the end users. This will also give ATI's partners the freedom and the opportunity to be more creative with their cooling systems. That will give consumers more choices, better cooling and headroom for overclocking.

    A good ideia is to sell it to custommer's without any cooler as an option

    You'd think by now that all the high-end Vid cards would be available with proper fan cooled rear PC exhaust and quiet fans. What's the hold-up?

    They X1800XT and X1900XT/XTX have a rear exhaust fan but they are loud. They work better than any other air solution for them if you take the time to turn the fan speed up. Plus, if you lap the part that touches the GPU the temps drop 10C or so. Still a great idea to sell them without.

    They should have done this a long time ago. Just look at all the crappy and loud fans they sell, for example the 7900GT.

    I agree, this should've been an option long ago, like the way you can get CPUs without fans if you want.

    Well, lets all be happy it's happening now instead of complaining it wasn't done earlier :p

    This will probably make prices go up, as the different brands will now either have to buy lots of aftermarket coolers, or develop their own.

    But ATI is selling them to brands without the coolers, so that would cut the cost...and companies like HIS already have aftermarket coolers for graphics cards, so it wouldnt' be much of a difference in cost, if not lower.

    That's right. I can't see this having a noticable negative impact on prices.

    This is not for consumers however. WHich never will be that would be dumb. A lot would try to run it without a cooler (cpu's are just blatent when you dont have a cooler).

    However, for oems that use different coolers, this will save them a ton of money..

    let the price war BEGIN!

    Win Win news IMO.

    Ati sells more. OEM's sell more. Lower prices for consumers.

    Whats not to like? :D

    Eh? Must not have read it carefully enough.

    "They will still provide them if video card makers choose to use them, but default shipments will not contain coolers."
