I feel bad for Nvidia right now, they're only getting about 20-30% yields on the GT300 cores this time around, which means a delay to who knows when and ATI is gonna release performance their card first, big time

i guess it was a good review, but eh there's comparison to current cards, and why mention they had a demo of wolfenstein and not show it? that's just a bummer. i was hoping to see some fps graphs and then maybe find another site that shows the demo with current cards for an idea of performance increase. Maybe its just me but those benches show and prove nothing. pointless imo

OMG, I can't wait for Sept 10th. Not because of the revealing of the HD 5xxx series, but because of the reduced price of the HD 4xxx series, and the (hopefully) announced release date of the HD 5xxx series.

(I'm still running on old specs, I plan to upgrade in sept - dec time frame; I will have a new pc by 2010)

I'm not expecting a huge drop in the 4k cards. Since these new ones won't have any competition from nVidia. They probably won't be $600 G80 cards, but I expect them to run higher than the 4k series did when they initially came out.

Also, I know its been said they will launch with a complete lineup, but I'd be surprised if some the higher single gpu 4k series cards didn't still reign up to ~$200. If your running a DX11 game, sure they will be fast since the 4k won't be able to do DX11. DX10 and lower though, which will still probably be 98% of the game market for a little while, I'd suspect only the higher end cards to do well.

Either way, if this pushes 4890s down in price, I'll probably sell my 4870x2 and get a couple for a decent price. Might get a couple GTX 285s depending on what nVidia does and how well those 5k series perform.

Me neither, just so its clear, I've already noticed big price drops on the 4xxx series... a bit more than a month ago as I mentioned in a thread. I bought a 4890 for 409 AUD, when I bought the XFX OC edition for Crossfire last week It was only 269 AUD... 4850 hd has also gone from 230+ to 170 - 190's AUD which left 4870 to take over the 4850's old release price range which you can get for 199 AUD around my local area.

This is why I refunded the XFX 4890 and just got a sound card now lol... come one HD5xxx! I will be upgrading to i7 soon to complement them .

around its release the manufacturing cost for the gt200's was about 100 dollars, but since nvidia and the manufacturer, should have definitely improved by now.

of course it's all speculation/rumors, that's all we have to go off of. Though most rumors on hardware are usually 75% accurate, with some specs being off. The rumors for the HD 4870 said 480spu's, that'd be bomb if the HD 5870 was the same case having like 1400-1600 spu's instead . The architecture may be based off previous ones, but there can be big differences. Like nvidia's GT200 is based off of G92, but it has much more SPU's as well as those being revised SPU's. I hope ATI not only has increased them but also revised them to perform better compared to HD 4870's SPU's. twice the ROP's i think is what is going to contribute to a major performance increase. i wanna see engineering sample's reviewed already damit!!!! :lol:

The G92 does not thrash the G80, and the G200 doesn't even thrash the G80s. They all fall down in the same places, because of the architecture.

All they're doing is using brute power to compensate, but eventually that will no longer work.


The fact that GPUs average less than 70% activity, should be the first indication.

Wow... No one should have problems playing Crysis with that lol. Too bad you need Windows 7 for DX11.

I'm interested in seeing how this newest generation of cards do. I have a specific performance point in mind which I'm getting with an OCed 295... on water... but if I can get a single GPU on quiet air or water that beats it then I'm gonna be sold. So far it seems ATi would have the right idea IMO to widen the memory bandwidth. Fast memory is one thing, but they needed more beef to their architecture. Best of wishes to the next gen.

when nvidia released the G80's I think they realized all of this, the G92's are near Identical the the G80's architecture and the GT200's are Identical to the G92's, they are just beefed up

it all started with the G80's and, nvidia milked it real good

if the nvidia's new architechture follows the current one a little, they are gonna be pumping out well over 100,000 MTexels/sec and if the cards do use DDR5 they will be pumping out at least 200GB/sec, ATI is gonn also have a really high memory bandwidth

So the top single gpu card will fall into the same price range that the 4870 did at launch? I'm still suspect of that as I think retailers\AIB may try and take advantage a little here.
