I pretty much assumed it would since Precision worked well on the G15 and both have the same creator (along with rivatuner). The only thing that pisses me off, is for some damn stupid reason, MSI Afterburner doesn't have a screenshot feature, yet EVGA Precision does...yeah it's minor, but one more program I now gotta run if I wanna take screenies. Bah! And sure Precision doesn't have built in voltage control, but either way it does me no good...so that's a BS argument to give to me! :p

But MSI Afterburner seems pretty solid, aside from making a fan profile, it says that it won't allow a decrese in fan speed for a custom profile, yet all I have is increases. That's fine, I'd rather have a locked in setting I can live with through the entire idle-full load range. Might toss an AC cooler on this beast down the road. Gonna dig into the bios too, see what I can see. I'm sure vmods of some sort will pop up, just hoping soft-side (I know it's not gonna happen, still hoping!).

Foudn a nice article on "bright side of news" about an alleged HD5990 (overclocked 5970) from sapphire: http://www.brightsideofnews.com/news/2010/3/3/sapphire-ready-to-launch-radeon-hd-5990-4gb.aspx

Do you not read the news posts on this forum?

All of ATIs partners are coming out with these sorts of cards.

Asus have " Ares" XFX have 5970 "black edition" and so on.

By the by, have to say I'm very disappointed with 5770 , why did everyone say the temperatures were good? D:

I can't even change the cooler to something decent either so I'm stuck with a card I don't want now D:

what temps are you getting?

my temps were exceptional

31 idle 65 underload.

For the wattage of these cards, its actually awful performance.

not even overclocked it yet : /

I'm also completely unimpressed by how cheap the card is in general, the cooler is tacky and made of cheap materials and there is no ram or mosfet cooling, I expect better from a card that costs £130 quid.

( I had better temperatures running my trad passively on my 4850)

I agree. They cheaped out on the cooler and charged the same price, feeding on the popularity of the cards. Poor show.

temps look good to me.

Not considering the manufacturing tech and the wattage these cards put out.

Infact I'd say its not just mine that have poor temps, they're just better then what your used too.

If I could get the trad on I would be expecting 15 idle and about 35 underload.

Those are good temps.

Hell 50c underload would of been acceptable.

70 under-load is what my hd4870 had with its stock cooler.

Not impressed one bit.

Wierd you must have some sort of problem then. The coolers on my cards are better than any stock coolers I've ever used and I've used a lot of video cards.

I think you'll find the cards run cooler then any cards you've ever used.

Not that the coolers are better.

pics courtesy of wiz

The only thing that's changed from atis last cards is the shroud. There's simply nothing to these coolers, tiny fin array on a copper base.

The only impressive thing is idle temperature which even then could be better. ( my 4870 idled at 54 you see)

Infact, the 5770 cooler is worse then a stock 4870 cooler

Ati have really been cheapy bastards

note how the 4870 cooler also cools mosfets and ram.

No such joy on 5770 :p

if Ati didn't skimp out you'll easily see 1ghz + on these cards at the same temperatures you find impressive at the moment.

My 5850 cooler doesn't look like that underneath. The 5770 is getting here tomorrow or Friday, so I'll reserve judgement till then. I do see your point though. If these cards were selling at the price they should be selling at they would be fine. But since they are currently overpriced you aren't getting your money's worth.

The cooler on the 5850 is the one used on the 4870 so I suppose its same sort of value when I think of it that way.

Also I suppose your right, forgot the retailers are doing the robbing not ATI.

I guess I'm more annoyed as I got caught up in the hype and pissed away money I can't get back.

I was quite happy with my 4850 which I should of kept really, made a big loss as I tried selling it via ebay too : [

BAH!

own stupid fault.

Has anyone tried doing crossfire with a 5770 and 5870?

I know its a little odd, but given that the open box I got from newegg is good, I'll have a 5770 in the arsenal alongside a 5870 which is what I will use to replace my 4870x2. Just kind of wondering if anyone has done it to see what to expect.

I believe you can't crossfire a HD5770 with an HD5870 series video card, they must be in the same series number, for eg. 5770 + 5770 or HD5750 not HD57xx + HD58XX:D

Correct. You cannot CrossFire anything with a 5770 other than another 5770 or 5750.

+1 although the numbers don't necessarily mean they cards use a different gpu sometimes.

For example you can crossfire a 4350 and 4550 ( same gpu even though the second digit implies different gpus!)

*edit*

Actually after some more research seems you can crossfire 5770 and 5870 but the 5870 will have to wait for 5770 to keep up with its frame rate ( so will slow its self down)

Might work with v-sync on maybe?

If you have the cards may as well give it a try, not as if you can't uncrossfire them afterwards.

Got my watercooling installed, but due to the genius of ATI some components are too close to the phases to use regular copper sinks, so I used some black aluminum that allowed temps to rise to 95C under furmark.

What is the max safe temperature for the phases on this card?

Steevo sounds way to hot man!

Can you grab a picture of your card with your block on maybe we can throw some suggestions your way : ]

Also may aswell post this here too.

The block and fin array from batmobile style 5770
[/IMG]
Measures 45x35x20 mm ( just the fin array not the base)

This tiny thing manages to cool your cards to around the 30-40idle and 70-80 heavy load.

Imagine if ATI used a heatsink of their usual size XD

Due to the magic of Techpowerup I foudn this.

http://www.techpowerup.com/109992/T...for_Radeon_HD_5800_Series_Graphics_Cards.html

http://www.directron.com/vrmr4.html?gsear=1

Going to have to get the superglue off to mount it, but that can be done. The far one by the crossfire connector barely gets warm, the memory doesn't get too warm, and the core is staying at about 40C under full load of 1.3v and 1010Mhz.

Awsomesauce

Edit++++++++

It seems that about 120C is max on these, way to freakign hot for me to believe is safe. I am ordering a new cooler. I want about 80C max.

Edit =-=-=-=-

Zipzoomfly has these for a bit more than other places, but 2nd day shipping for 6.99 Mine will be here Friday!!!!! Woo!!!

There was someone on [H] who put one of those on a 5850 and got VRM temps in the high 80s. He tried with and without a fan and there was very little difference (think less than 2C).

I have three 120mm fans blowing through my case for my radiator since it is front mount. airflow isn't a problem, but removing the insane amount of heat they produce is a huge problem.
