Well flashing shouldn't actually achieve settings any higher than ATITool can for you, but 500/560 is a good speed. I can't remember what my 9550 did but I think it was something like 410/440 with stock cooling.

Lol... my card managed 510/560 with a new plastic plate installed :D

Are you sure? The memory timings are more agressive, giving more performance per clock

Some of the memory timings for the stock Sapphire 9550 are even more agressive than the 9600PRO

EDIT: Whoops...nearly killed the card... accidentally pressed the memory and changed something... luckily i had a "Radeon 9200SE"(200/166, very relaxed memory timings) profile which solved the problem instantly :D

Well if you make the memory timings more agressive it can give better performance but again these can be edited in ATITool (or you can do what I did and modify your own bios). Most 9600 bioses don't have much more agressive timings AFAIK, only a few.

Nvm.... don't need to flash... sapphire card memory timings are already more aggressive than the normal 9600PRO... so if i flashed id get worse performance. Thermal tape is a rip... i used standard double sided adhesive and got the exact same results, and no, the tape did not melt.

Image of perspex plate, deflecting hot air from the Processor, prevents hot air from getting to the memory. Its god damn useful. If i voltmod I've gotta get a bigger plate, and install a fan as well.

EDIT: Apparently sapphire's 9550s are one of the best... note that my GPU uses 4.0ns DDR1. So... how much more could i push it if i voltmodded? The core is getting artifacts because its not getting enough voltage at higher clocks, this is evident when i placed a probe on the aluminum heatsink, there wasnt much heat as it was constantly blown off (with a huge 80mm fan blowing a gale onto the card).

I'm afraid I don't know much about vmodding, all I know is that 4.0ns would be intended to run at 250MHz at least... mine was only 5.0ns so not very good. It was a Sapphire too.

You got Mezza'd.

What do you guys think about the plastic plate?

Hard to see what it looks like in that pic, a little small and blurry...

My memory was hynix by the way, just slow stuff.

Bad luck -_-... Should i voltmod??? The blue thing is the Plastic plate on the RAMsinks, used to prevent hot air from going onto the PCB; it actually WORKS!!!

I would just be worried that any heat would be trapped by a plastic plate... I'd say go a for a voltmod if you're careful and follow a good guide, otherwise it's too risky.

Please help!

Hi guys ... I'm new here and I kinda' need your help.
I have a Gecube R9550 Gu2-D3 with a messed up bios. At some point someone changed the BIOS without making a backup. Does anyone have an original BIOS for this video card?
I tried lots of bios files from the ATI BIOS list, but I didn't find one that is compatible. Can you at least tell me how to choose a bios that is compatible?

About the memory: from what I read, I should use a BIOS from a card that has the same memory. From what I could tell, mine has Hynix memory, but I don't know the latency.

Thanks for your time!

Installed fan to remove heat, now it works at those same clocks with Zero artifacts.. hahah, i also installed a "Fuelled by sapphire" sticker on the plate.

Uh... okay... so who was this "someone"?
Dude, check the memory chips, they should have some gibberish and have an ending of either 30 (if you are lucky) 40, or 50, respectively 3.0ns 4.0ns and 5.0ns.
Who flashed the card? Where did you buy it from? Thats what im asking you... if you mucked your GeCube 9550 up and noone has the bios, its one helluva paperweight.

NEXT TIME YOU FLASH, BACKUP FIRST

I didn't want to go into details too much. My brother brought it home from a friend of his. This friend says that he's got it from someone else. So I can't say what really happened. All I know is that when I plugged it in, the screen was like a puzzle. You couldn't read anything from it.
So I tried a few bios files, but none of them fixed the problem. Some of them seemed to work. In POST all seemed fine, the windows logo was ok, but in windows there are still some display problems.

I looked at the memory chips and all I can see is that is Hynix. There is no 30, 40 or 50 at the end. Believe me I looked really careful.

If someone has a bios for this card (GeCube R9550 GU2-D3) or know of a compatible bios please let me know. Thanks!

Dude, get ATI tool and turn down the Memory timings, and the Clock speed -_-...

Ok, I need some Help, I bought a ATI Radeon 9550, On the box it has no name as to who makes it, Just says Graphics By ATI CERTIFIED RADEON, HAS SAMSUNG 434 ( K4D261638F-TC33)Memory AND SHOWS VR370 as core. can anybody help me make since of this, As where to start with bios back-up, Overclocking. ect.

Edit:

Well the memory is samsung 3.3 ( vr350 ) The bios is LOCK, it is however a 9600 pro ( with a 9550 bios ) after looking into the bios and backing everything up. Is there anyway of getting around this? Also this is a True ATI card. Any help is welcomed.

So are you saying that the core is 350 or 370? 370 would mean it is a X550 which is a completely different card, 350 is a 9550.

w00t, after changing the position of the 80mm fan i can clock to 515mhz/281mhz, aftifact free :D (also installed a 80mm fan on the backside). Im trying to max out the card's potential, but the voltages is seriously hindering my ability to OC. Can't you control voltages through ATI Tool for the 9550???

Memory Type? First of all thats what you need to know. Dont use the "respect" emoticon too much, you look like a beggar.

Voltmodding instructions please?
