Try the 10.4 or 10.4a drivers and see if still does it.
(Others seem to like these drivers and say they have less problems)

How are your temps during gameplay?

Try this, it solved my problem when i had a 4890 :
go to "start" search "services" and try to disable "amd external events utility" stop the service first then disable it in "boot type" and restart. if it"s saying the service is used and cant be stopped try in safe mode. Hope this will help.

problems like this can also be caused by bad system memory or an unstable OC, the drivers are just crashing because they're being fed bad data.

Temps are fine... But if I dont have manual fan control set to on (50% fan speed) it wont cool itself down...

That sounds like a problem to me. If the fan isn't at 50% it overheats?

No no no... If I don't unlock ATI Overdrive and set the manual fan control to any sort of percentage.... It wont automatically cool itself down when its running hot (even when playing games)... The settings dont even kick in until 20 secs in loading windows...

It will be all quiet then when loading up windows then... *INSERT LOUD FAN NOISE HERE*

Before I figured out to setting manual control on... I had to alt tab to get the fan to cool the GFX card down when playing games....

    Its got me stumped...

Somebody, named Infamous, in a Newegg review stated the exact same fan problem and said he fixed it with a bios update, but did not elaborate on it.

You might want to call the tech support and explain the problem to them and see if they have a fix for it (like, maybe, a bios update). If not, I'd RMA that sucker, and they would fix my problem or send me a new one, considering the green spent on it.
