My sister is moving in with me and she has a kid, a kid that likes to play frisbee with dvds XD. Is there anything out there that I can make legal backups for the dvds some are newer and some are older family outings that we've taped. Any help would be great.

DVD Cloner is a good program for that but you have to purchase it.

It will copy about anything you throw at it in great quality.

for tapes what I did with all our camera tapes was get a cheap usb tv recorder, one is easycap, you can get it off ebay for like 5 bucks sometimes, or if you have a tv tuner, just plug it into the vcr but you have to record the shows manually with these approaches.

Slysoft AnyDVD seems to work well but I just got it recently. I had been using DVDFab Platinum which I guess was replaced with AnyDVD.

They charge extra for the HD version though which is kind of a rip IMO.

Here is the price list - http://www.slysoft.com/en/purchase.html

i use Dvd decryptor its free and makes a burnable ISO of the dvd you just reburn it to a proper dvd and problem solved

its saved my butt many times when drunken friends have "accidently" broken a disk

I use DVD Decrypter. It backs it up to ISO or DVD folders. If you want to remove features or compress to a single layer DVD you can use DVD Shrink, so for movies you can take out foreign audio and subs or re-author the DVD so it's just the movie, it also has the option to backup to ISO or folders. Both are free. DVD Shrink also has the option to create ISO with DVD Decrypter
