BBC 2 Tonight Gamechanger

Later this evening, the BBC will be airing a one-off TV special about the development of Grand Theft Auto and the criticism that surrounded its portrayal of violence. It's called The Gamechangersand stars Daniel Radcliffe as Rockstar president Sam Houser and Bill Paxton (Apollo 13, Titanic and Nightcrawler) as Jack Thompson, a former attorney that campaigned against the series. The docudrama's first trailer showed promise and, if nothing else, we're keen to see exactly what caused Rockstar to take legal action against the BBC. You can catch it all tonight (September 15th) from 9pm over on BBC Two.

Meh this world is full of excuses and blame is easy placed on a game than and not what the real reason is.

Drama is what makes this silly assed world go around sadly.

EDIT: I be more interested in what Channel 4 ( used to be at least more open minded )would say then what BBC would say on the matter, in fact BBC calling Rockstar on GTA is just taking the piss as have you seen some of the real violent TV show's they release.

Im not going to watch this. I am tired of people whining about violent computer games making violent people, There is no direct correlation to this, and if there was then that person probably had other issues on his mind to begin with.


A guy loses his job, loses his girlfriend, ends up losing his house - owes the bank tonnes of money but is partially in that position because the bank fucked him over and they dont seem interested in fixing it or hearing him out. no lawyers will take his case because he has no money so he goes to the bank with a shotgun and demands to see the bank manager and gives him a taste of some top quality buckshot to the chest and shoots anyone else that tries to run away.

Panic alarm gets set off, a siege between him and the police ensues. guy eventually gives himself up. What do the media report on? oh he was unemployed so he spent the entire days, weeks months playing GTA till they cut off his electricity -- What would honestly drive a man to commit such an act? No its not the depression. Its the video games. They made him violent and he might of been reenacting a scene from the game.

I'm with you on that I'm 40 years old.
I've played games for 35 years.
Only thing I've killed in the years is spiders. And I have a girlfriend for 14 years. She has wanted to kill me many times. Make up with a 2 player gauntlet

I find that "extremely" violent games produce normal people. Yes can you believe that!
Dunno about others, but I find it relaxing to come home and murder a bunch of pixel. Especially after a hard day of dealing with stupid people.
I dare to say games stopped me from going on a killing spree. Except in UT and Quake.

But then again every time there is a killing/murder/… it’s always something else. Not the stupid parents, not the drugs, not the fact the person was insane, …

@scevism Thanks for the reminder, I'd meant to set the DVR, but missed it. Just watched it now on iPlayer and it was pretty good.

I remember how happy I was when that pain the ass nannying do-gooder Jack Thompson finally got disbarred a few years ago, so it was great to see it being played out here. Sweet.

I'll definitely be checking that out. The best part of Jack Thompson's crusade against video games is it ended with him getting disbarred for illegal law practice. Quite the hypocrite that boy.
