I need to RMA my H100i. It is unreliable now and if I OC to 4.2Ghz my temps jump to over 80c. therefore, I need an aircooler as a backup. What is the best, affordable Aircooler for the 4770k that can handle a slight OC? And should I RMA the H100i?

Slight OC, or comparible to a H100i? I'd opt for the Cryorig R1 or NH D14 if that's your drift.

Just use the stock cooler and deal with stock clocks, man. Corsair RMAs are pretty quick, you might be without the cooler for a week. If ya want to spend for that period of time, You won't find much that is really good for Haswell OC'd that is ~$25

ROFL.

Oh.

That N520 isn't the best, either, but I'd mount it an give it a try, anyway.

Still rocking that chip? You've had it for a while now..maybe a couple years almost.

Anyway, as long as it doesn't throttle, you're good.

Yeah the N520 is doing fine now. Yes Im still rocking the 4770k. Why? do you have a 4790 or better you want to hawk to me?
Did you ever OC this chip? If so, what clock did you get to and do you remember the settings?
This Gigabyte Board's UEFI is confusing for Overclocking. I miss the simplicity of AMD overclocking.

I've used quite a few good air coolers, the CM 212 EVO is decent, my Noctua U14S has been an epic cooler that I will probably keep until it turns to dirt or the next case I use is too small for me to use it. :D

d15 and thermalright silver arrow sbe are about the best money can buy and not far behind a h100.

212 evo is great bang per buck for a stop gap you wont loose much money on.

I'm using a Xigmatek Aegir on my 4770K, with a single included PWM fan, and "silent" profile on my Z97-A BIOS. It offers better temps than an H70 liquid cooler.

Polimatechs Megahelem is the best aircooler ive ever had, and im still using it, it simply rocks.

It comes with a better mounting system than Noctua and you can choose which ever fan you want for preformance or less noise.

I use Scythe Mugen MAX and it's amazing for it's price. Also it doesn't cover RAM slots, so you can freely use high profile ones. It has really quiet and efficient Fan too.

Hey Ducky....

Not to hijack your thread or anything, but if you (or anyone else) wants/needs an Evo 212 and wants to save a few $$, I will have one up for sale ($22.00) on Wed or Thursday.....It's been a great cooler, but I am going to be o/c'ing my cpu bigtime and am switching to a H100i as soon as it arrives :)

The best coolers out right now are Phanteks PH-TC14PE, Cryorig R1 Ultimate, Noctua NH-D15, Silver Arrow IB-E, bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 3, NH-D14, etc. The list is long and they all out-perform H100i. Fact is many out-perform all CLCs at same noise level.

Here is some data from George Cella's testing.

I changed the cooler on my i7 4790K from the air cooling Phanteks PH-TC14PE to a AIO liquid cooled LEPA Aquachanger 240 (same price) and saw a large drop in temperatures, almost 10 degrees C across all cores.

I'm using the Noctua NH-D14, I've been able to achieve a 4.6GHz overclock on my 4770k. Fantastic cooler.

I'm assuming you have LEPA installed as intake .. that would explain the 10c difference. Because the TC14PE has at least as much cooling ability as LEPA.

Come back in a year or two and tell us what your Aquachanger is doing.

NH-D14 is as good as most all big twin towers .. and better than many, especially if the fans are changed. D14 & D15 have almost identical cooling ability, but D15 fans are 2x NF-A14 1500rpm 140,2m³/h while D14 are NF-P14 & NFP12 1200/300 RPM 110,3/92,3m³/h .. that's 30m³/h more airflow for D15. ;)
