I want to get a 5850, but can't find anyone that sells it... So I might get a 5770

    this is on 1920x1080

If memory serves me right, DonInKansas got one with that resolution, which then turned into Crossfire 5770's, and then to a 5850.

Moral of the story, keep looking for the 5850. Older 200series Nividias are being sold like hotcakes now too.

5770 is a good card, and has performance around that of a GTX 260 (at nearly half the power consumption, mind you). The 5830 exists for ~240, but I have no idea how well it performs or if it has terribly high power consumption versus performance, since it is a heavily binned chip. The 5850 would be ideal, though.

Funny, I'm in the middle of a trade with him xD

To the post above me, the 5830 is much closer to 5770 performance than of 5850, so bang/buck is much lower

Yeah, I looked at W1zzard's review for the MSI HD 5830 and the 5770 has 24% better performance per watt, and the 5850 has 40% better performance per watt.

Plus, the 5830 only has 16 ROPs (half of 5850). :nutkick:

    5850 or 5770.

I originally ordered a 5850 but after 3 weeks of it being back ordered I ordered 2 5770's for around the same cost. ($175 per card not including Canadian taxes + shipping) The 5770's OC great for the price! 100% stable @ 1000 Mhz Core and 1400 Mhz Mem, it surpasses the 5850 in terms of performance but doesn't allow to upgrade to much further down, but once Fermi has matured and ATI release their new architecture for the 6-7 series (or what ever) I am sure I will upgrade and by then the 5000 series will be considered "slow".

Well for $700 Canadian I would have went for a 5970 but the performance may not margin by a whole lot with a 5970 vs 5850 crossfire.

Good question you ask - minimum fps - unfortunately not many reviews even bother to look at that, or they use games that are either outdated, or constantly run at 60fps MINIMUM.

Is a 5850 that much less than a 5870, or are you facing a PSU issue?

best bang for the buck? if dx11 isn't a issue, I'd look for a used gtx260 or even a gtx280

my 1st 5850 cost me 300$ CAD local, my second, 280$ CAD + shipping for RMA (~20$)

    Totals 600$

I prefer having DX 11 yes... I am gaming on 2048x1152, and I already bought all my parts :toast:
