Best card in $200 Range

Duh... X1950PRO EXTREME = Clear winner.

Nvidia cards have crappy cooling anyway. The stock coolers usually need to be removed in order to install cooling for RAM.

Coolers aren't mounted by NV, they just make the chips and a reference design. If the cooler of the card sucks it's the choice of whatever brand it is. Plus, my card, with stock cooler runs just fine. No heat issues.

To kind of answer the original question, if it was a toss up between the 7950 or the 1950pro i would go for the 7950 if speed was your thing but the 1900XT 256MB is a little faster and you get the better visuals (HDR+AA). I would only choose the 7950 over the 1950Pro because there is a fair gap performance wise and I dont feel that HDR/AA is sufficient to counteract or warrant the performance difference, but that only applies if your an overclocker, at stock I would take the 1950Pro.

And just to support those comments.......generally the best recognised stock cooler in the business up until recently was the 7900GTX/GTO Heatpipe silent cooler!

The 7950GT is better in most games, although the X1950PRO DOES come close, and even beats it in some games (suprised me )

I dont know about prices where you are, but over here, the 7950GT is way more expensive too

Anyways, id say to get the X1900XT for that insane price, although the above is just my point of view on the x1950 pro vs 7950gt

P.S. cant wait till they release some good OC'in software for the x1950

the x1900xt is the best card the x1950pro is not a option at all compared to it at this price. The thread turned more into a "which of these ATI cards should I buy?" than between the 7950GT and the X1950Pro. In all the research I did when looking to upgrade, the 7950GT always had superior performance to the X1950Pro. And actually, the two cards whose performance I always found disappointing were the X1950Pro and the 7900GS.

I mean for $150 you can buy a X1900GT which beats up the 7900GS (at stock speeds).

But by all means if you can snag an X1900XT for $214 then get it!

But if you've got the patience (for a rebate) and can push your budget a bit, there's this card too - which impressed my very much.

199.00 after a rebate and it will overclock past a x1900xtx speeds with the built in overdrive program. I know I have a x1900xt 256 and it keeps up with the 7900gtx beating it sometimes and will surpass a 7950 7900gt and 7900gs buy large margins.

It is also either loud as a freight train, or hot enough to toast your, well, toast .

yeah the PRO has better coolers and is quiet and cool (also thanks to 80nm)

BUT id rather get the X1900XT at that price , and put an aftermarket cooler on it

I say 1950XT, cuz if he's going to spend that much, might as well spend lil more and get the 1950XT ive gotten mine to 749core1044mem but right now I got it stock 650core900mem cuz theres no point in ocing if I get good fps and eye candy but atleast I know I can get it that high for later if I need to but if hes not going to get a DirectX10 card when he builds one at the end of the year this should be more then enough for some time untill lots of games need dx10
