That A6 clocks to ~3.7-3.8 Ghz on stock cooling... at that speed its close to the i3 sandy - change the case to something a bit better, and you have really nice rig.

Ravenas was right that 6870 is much better value (due to the games).

for 180~ dollars more? trying to make the best pc for the cheapest price possible.... and fro mthe performance chart provided by phanbeuy... nothing for the price beats a gtx480... even though its a porrly made graphics card... i mean not efficient....... but its efficient for the price

Well one thing to remember is the time of use vs money spent, a 670 bought NOW will game better for a longer period of time than the 480 will. So yes, you are spending $90 more on the GPU alone, but when you look at cross referenced to how long into the future it will provide a fluid gaming experience, it's the better buy.

Dude... where are you getting $90 from?

A 670 is $399, a 480 is $219... that is $180 difference.

I would still defend purchasing a 670 over a 480, even with a 180 difference.

well actually 190 more rofl i mis calculated the 90, yes the 670 is more reliable, yes the 670 is more efficient, yes the 670 games better, but for the price... even if it really is worth it... i dont see it fitting into someones budget if they decided on a very cheap gaming pc*compared to OEM gaming builds*

Also, I wouldn't... most games are console ports now why would I pay an 80%+ premium for 40% better performance? I'll just oc my hot ass 480 to 800 Core (15%) but some headphones on and go lol...

At that point it would my personal decision to wait and save up some more money then to afford the higher end GPU, only because as it was stated earlier, the bulk of performance of a gaming rig comes from the power of the video card.

The Geforce GTX 670 should be a lot (about 144%) more effective at anisotropic filtering than the GeForce GTX 480. O.O

look at gtx 670 reviews - the 570 and 480 are the same performance - the 480 has more vram and higher mem bandwith. The 6870 doesn't come that close to either of them, but is a good value.

Will you ditch that SSD already ?

Used 480's go quite cheap sometimes. check hardforums, anandtech, or OC.net

ill keep it on the side as things to consider.. ssd's rock man...small size? who cares youll never booot up and open up an application faster with an hdd ^^, as they say on top gear, "its an optional extra" haha

Fitseries3 was selling his unlocked HD 6950 2GB DirectCU II for 160$ here.
If you dig hard enough, you can find great deals. Also, a cheap gaming build should have in consideration that, if the cash isn't that much to buy the rig, then there isn't that much for anything else really, so energy costs should be considered too. A GTX480 consumes way to much. Just go for an APU for that "capable and yet cheap" combo and pair it with a nice set of RAM sticks (kudos if you can make it 2133MHz), cooler, 600W PSU (XFX, Corsair, Seasonic, Antec, Super Flower) and a decent 250$ GPU. Then OC it, if necessary. Done.
You can't really have high performance standards when you're building a "cheap" rig.
